To say that Google's and Amazon's relationship has been going through a rough patch over the past couple of years would be an understatement. The two companies have been on a path of mutual destruction, causing services of one to disappear from devices of the other, and vice versa. It looked like a resolution was nowhere in sight, so you can imagine our surprise when we saw the news that Google and Amazon have finally kissed and made up.
In a mutual announcement, the two online giants have revealed that they're collaborating on bringing their services to the other's devices. "In the coming months," the YouTube app will be coming back to the Fire TV (Amazon's devices and Fire TV Edition smart TVs). It will be followed later this year by the YouTube TV and YouTube Kids apps as well.
On Amazon's side, the Prime Video app will add support for casting "in the coming months," thus supporting Google's first-party Chromecasts and other Chromecast built-in devices. The app will also be more broadly available across Android TV units and no longer limited to a few models like the NVIDIA SHIELD, for example.
The announcement didn't make any mentions of music services, but at least there's hope that Amazon Music could one day be supported on Google Home, or YouTube Music on Alexa-powered speakers.

Any idea if YouTube app will be comparably with the chromecast audio? I still use one of those suckers.

Praise the tech god! Now I don't have to hook up my old xbox every time I want to watch something on Prime.

To try to provide complete coverage on each of my TV's I pair a mini PC running Linux, Chrome OS or Windows with a streaming device - Fire Stick, Roku, Chromecast and Shield.
