I’m a fan of using OneDrive now. 1tb is enough for me. $70 and you get office 365 as well. Works fine for storing photos from iPhone. I have to believe Android phones work fine as well.

Yea not sure what Google’s strategy is here. Getting more users to Google one is nice but at what cost for them? When that happens, guess my family will stick with apple photos

I'm not promoting solutions, just options for consideration based on use/need.

I usually don't keep much on my phone, so when I have some photos saved I usually sync to Google Photos then delete from phone. It was really a kick in the sack to read this announcement yesterday.

same. i used to be active w/ rooting (like alot of geeks on here) so i always think of my phone as 'temp storage' that i could reset to factory at any time and lose nothing.

google got us hooked on that sweet cloud heroin and now we're paying the price.

Do you use the Plex app camera upload feature?

I know you have a server, use it! And for extra peace of mind, back up your plex data to backblaze or something like that for cheaper than google.

i'm full up

i am waiting on 12 or 14TB WD drives to go on sale for black friday.

also my company made me a sweet SWEET deal on an optiplex so i'm about to move my plex server to a new modern PC as opposed to that 8yo alienware aurora i'm running it on now.

Bottomland: you can look up 'google takeout' which you can use to download everything and if you just select 'photos and videos' it should give you an approximate size for everything you have to date.

I put in for a request for a takeout the other day and just now got the notification it's ready for download. Just a little over 40 gb. What's stupid is it exports a folder for each day of pictures and makes it a nightmare to navigate once you have it downloaded. Dammit Google.

They did that on purpose.

Plenty of photo apps can load directory trees for easy browsing.

Or you can use Explorer and do a search for * in the root folder and search all subfolders. Select all results and copy-paste to a new folder.
