Looking for a large tv for my living room that gets a decent amount of natural light
I had been advised qled for that but I don’t know anything about TVs personally
Any recommendations?

QLED for a room with that kind of light.

I’ve had one tech type and a veteran salesman tell me that OLED is great for deep blacks but more glitches showing up with widespread use.
They claim QLED and other quantum, mini and nano technologies in the LCD/LEDworld are gaining ground and will eventually catch up with OLED soon. Especially with 8K becoming popular with LCD/LED.
Most admit that plasma still renders the best and most accurate color picture but lacks the brightness or pop that newer tech provide. Plus plasma is much more expensive to produce.
All in all, OLED might not be the answer. It’s all becoming a Betamax vs VHS, Blu-ray vs HDTV tech type war.
Will be interesting to watch.

How big and your budget? That usually makes the decision.

I can afford oled but I don’t want to buy something that doesn’t fit the room

I have a Vizio OLED and it’s bright as shite. I have it turned way down low and it’s brighter than the LED tv that was there before it.

What type of TV did you have originally? How much light we talking?
Eta.. The reason I ask is because I have 3 3060 windows and a back door that is full glass and the my oled is fine. I can email you a link to what the inside of my house looks like so you can compare the lighting

QLED is better for HDR content due to the higher max brightness.
That is IF you don't go with edge lit.

The Vizio OLED is incredibly not bright, even lower than the LG BX and on par with low end LCD sets.
Yes Samsung's line for 2021 is MiniLED and they are supposed to rival oled so we'll see.

Yeah I’m looking to get a 55”-60” what do I need to get. I would spend more on one but at what point will I see a noticeable difference.
It looks like the models go from
$500
$750-900
$1100-1400
$1600-1900

I don't care what the stat sheet says, it's bright as shite in real life.

It's still a solid TV and at the prices they've been discounted at already, very much worth.

Yea, I don't get the brightness thing. I don't like an overly bright picture. From my perspective bright = washed out and I much prefer dark more rich colors and deep dark blacks. The blacks on these ultra bright TVs look like washed out gray not black.
Translation: give me the OLED all day long.

People said the same shite 10+ years ago when I bought a Plasma TV and I had zero issues with it since then and it's still kicking. Great picture.

Oddly enough the plasma market in Europe is still thriving. Panasonic even still makes them. Not sure why US markets are not carrying.
Some say too heavy, emits more heat and not thin enough for Americans and are no larger than 65.
I have a 65-in Panasonic plasma, two actually, and are on the wall and picture is still fantastic. I want an 85 8K but will not ditch my plasma for one until my picture deteriorates.

That is kind of interesting. The last ones they sold here looked fantastic with thin bezels and all. My Panasonic had one of the best pictures I had seen until this OLED and I’d say that the OLED really only stands out in streaming quality.

Is the TCL 6 series still the best bang for buck? Cant get a 65" delivered for right at 1k.

Okay, so with everything that has been stated here, what is the "best" recommendation to replace a dying plasma? My sports room setting is dark, and my two plasmas have been great...but they are showing signs of an impending breakdown. OLED or QLED? Other?
Posted on 11/30/20 at 10:23 am to SmelvinRat
I’m leaning towards QLED because the price difference vs the picture quality is not worth spending almost a grand more.

OLED will be the best option if you want that plasma quality picture (deep blacks, high contrast. etc)
QLED's are still a very good option too. Just depends on how much you want to spend
