are there any smart thermostats that will look at temps in the rooms in the house and kick on the fan to regulate temp, or look at humidity and kick on the AC to bring the humidity down?
I think the ecobee has remote sensors that you can put in rooms away from the main thermostat, if that's what you mean.
I have a non-smart ceiling fan remote that I can set for a certain temperature and it will turn the ceiling fan on/off/faster/slower, if that's more of what you mean.

yeah I read about the ecobee but it doesnt do shite for humidity and it also really doesnt do shite to regulate temps across rooms. you would think that at least one of these manufacturers would have implemented this by now.

Anyone here use the flex strips from Osram or Hue? Any good uses other than under cabinet lighting ?

CAD have you looked into the newer Ring Pro or Skybell HD? It looks like the Skybell HD has free footage storage for a week. I still would like to have the door bell answering feature, plus be able to stream the footage to my surveillance system.

Have 2 Hue Gen 1 strips behind tv. Meh. Gen 2 is supposed to be much brighter though.

Under cabinets, above cabinets, behind TV, built in bookshelves lighting, under island granite and base... Lots of ways to use these strips.

How do y'all hide the power? install outlets in the cabinets?

not interested until
A: i get one that looks less bulky and ugly
B: they stop trying to force you into a bullshite subscription or disable features

i dont think im all that interested yet either. For starters our house really isnt the gathering point for friends. So our doorbell doesnt even ring that often. So from a practical standpoint I personally dont have much use.
But to your point i agree they look pretty cumbersome.

I wouldn't mind being able to see a front view of the person at the door but when either of my 2 security cameras that are pointed at the front and carport doors detect motion I get emailed a video clip to see who it is. There's just no way I could justify the price of a Ring.

Try and use existing outlets (microwave) (fridge). If not then yes install outlets above or in cabinets where it makes sense. Doing it yourself if you know what you are doing is pretty easy, or an electrician for a few hours isn't more than a few hundred.

I just got my hands on some of these and found this disclaimer a little funny. I guess CAD's love for Honeywell isn't mutual.

well you got your hands on the contractor model.
honeywell has had 2 versions of every stat they make since..well..forever.
i think the only difference is the contractor version has a 5y warranty and the consumer one is 2.
thats what happens when you are the KING! you market one product for professionals and one for DIYers.
honeywell is going to #MAGA

Quick little update on my WINK stuff (since its a slow wink news day)
Here are my 'milk glass' lights over the kitchen island from a few months back and how they look with the new hues when i'm messing around with the colors. don't regret spending a penny on them. it was hard to get a decent photo of the lights but they look great IRL

Guys,
How many of you use the go control motion sensors for automating lights? I set one up to turn the bathroom light on in the middle of the night but the lag makes it pretty useless. Right now the lag is about 5-10 seconds to turn the light on and 3-4 minutes to turn the light off. This eliminates it from being used as a true motion sensor for a light. Any other good uses for them.

there's a trick to speeding up the detection of those motion sensors but i'll have to dig around to see if i can find it.
its a common problem, the 'detection' delay is set too long out-of-the-box.

I abandoned using them to turn lights on because of the lag so I just have them turn lights off when no motion is detected for 15 minutes.

Thanks Cad that would be helpful.

You are on Hub 2? What brand of switch or smart bulb are you turning on? From the time the sensor blinks, the light comes on instantly. Actual sensing takes a couple of seconds, but it is placed higher than recommended so I'm hoping that improves once its mounted correctly.
ETA: I assume CAD is talking about using the test jumper. I could never get it work and I saw someone mention the other day it didn't work on gocontrol sensors.
