It’s not that different so far.

I installed it. I actually like it. Seems a lot faster and more responsive.

I installed it on older hardware through the dev channel in the insider program. I installed this on an old Lenovo Thinkpad I have with a sata SSD and 6th gen Intel processor. I believe this has a TPM 2.0 chip though.

I'm still a little blown away that Microsoft appears to be requiring TPM 2.0 functionality for Windows 11. I'll be curious to see if they back off of that in some way.

From a security standpoint it makes sense, but they need to lower the requirements for the CPU to at least 7th gen. I believe Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities are why they are being finicky about the CPU's.

I currently have Windows 11 dev installed on a Thinkpad with 6th gen Intel processor and TPM 1.2 chip. Everything runs good. I believe the requirements are strictly for security.

I'm already using Linux at home. Only downside is even with Wine, I can't run Civ 2.

As we get closer to release date, they will probably back off on this a bit. They are already facing a ton of backlash for it online.

I bet that you will be able to install the OS without meeting all the requirements, you will just get warnings or popups every now and then reminding you that you aren't running on recommended hardware.

I’ve switched my EUFI setting to allow TPM, so I’m showing good now, but I’m not sure if my board actually has a TPM chip

The new desktop task switcher is pretty slick, like the widgets, Android apps are now native, going to install a few and see what's up.

Bumping this thread... I've been watching out for a TPM module for my Gigabyte Z370 motherboard. The pricing jumped on these before MS's announcement and doesn't seem to have returned to anywhere near "normal" levels. Should be a $20-25 part, but the 9 pin model my MB needs is rarely showing up as available and when it does it's $150+.

Anyone seeing better?

Throughout the first video you linked, they emphasize how easy it is to move and re-size windows.

I am not sure about you, but I do not spend all day playing with window sizes.

How did y'all get Windows 11 already? I believe it releases in October?

If your machine meets the requirements, you can join the Windows Insider program and enable the Release Preview, which is the final version everyone is getting in October.

Computer still working? I'm really interested, but I'm always terrified of being am early adopter, especially with something as complex and critical as an OS.

Right now, early in the game, I think I'd be looking at trying it out in a VM instead of upgrading actual PC.

WineHQ is rating CIV 2 as Gold with 6.3... have you tried using PlayonLinux to set it up?
