Morning Gents

Looking for a little bit of advice here.. Recently just bought my first house & would rather not pay $180 a month for cable & internet, as i was doing before.

I have a Roku Smart TV coming & was wondering what y'alls opinions were on what I should do in regards to internet & TV?

I've heard alot about just getting internet through your cable provider & then using Sling TV to stream channels & sports - looks like this would run me $70 a month

Any advice is appreciated

For me cord cutting is not ready for someone heavy into sports. Too many different inputs and services to worry about.

Others here will disagree.

This, if you don't watch a lot of sports it's fine. Otherwise get cable/satellite.

Sports coverage depends on what you watch. I'm only into football. Football is more than covered by SlingTV + an antenna. Both NFL and college.

I can't really speak to how it works for other sports.

If you have U-Verse in your area, you can use them for internet and get DirecTV all for $95/mth for 2 yrs. After 2 yrs if they try to go up, just cancel the DirecTV.

It depends on what you watch. I don't miss traditional cable at all. SlingTV and the $5 sports add on package with an antenna and I get all of the football games I need. Some of the other streaming services like PS Vue have more content but cost a little more.

Although I can watch every college football game including obscure Div III games, every NFL game, every baseball game, and all the european sports broadcasts...pretty much any sport that is on TV......all with my Fabiptv service that costs $10/mo.

It depends on what you watch.

You can always try it, then sign up for a package if it doesn't work for you.

I have PSVue, and it works fine. It's not difficult to operate. It's just different. My 5yo has no trouble navigating to PSVue and his name, and his shows on my FireTV.

Depends on where you are. I'm in DFW. I have PSView.

I get ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, NFL, Red Zone, MLB, BIG10 (like, 3 channels of BIG10), FOX SPORTS SW, FS1, FS2, GOLF CHANNEL, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN NEWS, NBC SPORTS, LONGHORN and SEC Network.

What else could I ask for?

Which sports? I have DirectV Now and if it's not on an ESPN channel I fire up the app.

Between Tablo and Directv Now I am very pleased. I am sure some unknown variable will screw the whole thing up though, like the FCC allowing cable companies to charge extra for streaming TV.

How much does that run you. I'm moving at the end of the month and PSvue looks like it's just as good as any cable service really. Also what do you stream off of and what is your total with internet if you don't mind?

If you can get Frontier Fiber, go that route if you're planning on cutting the cord. Comcast will have a 1 TB data cap. Frontier basically doesn't have one. Their theoretical data cap is 10 TB, but they haven't ever enforced it.

Honestly, if I were you, I would get TV and Internet from them. They have the best picture quality out of the whole bunch when you compare them to DirecTV, Dish and Comcast.

If you go with an antenna, I would get either of the Clearstream 2 versions listed here. You will need one for local channels. Also, you will want to mount it outside, and I would suggest getting a preamp for it also. RCA makes a good one you can get from Lowe's for 30 dollars. You can check it out here. You can pick up over 100 channels over the air down there. You're about 5 miles further way from the towers than I am here in Katy.

Internet: $59 100Mb unlimited
I upgraded to $69 200Mb unlimited

PSVue is $45 a month and includes up to five simultaneous streams.

The Sports add-on package is $10 more.

I use FireTV boxes, Fire Sticks, and my tablet, computer and phones. It works pretty flawlessly now and having cloud DVR is nice.

check bundle offers from your cable company and att/directv/uverse. Many of us are getting internet/tv bundled for about $100/month.

By "check bundle offers", be sure when quoted, you also get the following info with the quote (they don't tell you unless you ask):

Monthly Set Top Box rental fees,
Monthly HD upgrade on rental STB,
Monthly DVR fee,
Monthly Federal taxes,
Monthly local taxes,
Monthly local franchise fee,
Monthly cost recovery fee.

My parents' DirecTV "bundle is AT&T Internet with the "Choice" DirecTV plan is like $90 a month. However, by the time all the monthly fees and taxes are added in, it's around $150.00 a month.

I cancelled Fios TV last March and Fios Internet, going with Time Warner Internet. I was paying about $240 a month. Over the next five months, I saved enough to pay for four FireTV boxes and two Fire Sticks. Since then, my accumulated savings are greater than $1500 and my family likes the whole watching experience much more, plus I went from 50Mb a month service to 200Mb service.

Missing? Channel surfing. Just mindless scrolling through channels. Miss it? Nope. Glad I cut the cord. You betcha'!

at&t doesn't service his area. It's Comcast (data cap), Frontier FIOS (if he is in their Fiber footprint) and Entouch (local company in some subdivisions).
