What is your level of DIY? Vivint is going to charge you at lease $60 per month ($720/year). You can get Ring monitoring plus video storage for $100 per year.

Look at Ring.
If you have Alexa. It's amazing.

Avoid signing any type of contract monitoring service like ADT, Vivint, etc.
Most of the devices (doorbell camera, outdoor camera, etc) are plug and play and easier if in a new home.
FWIW, I have Nest thermostat, doorbell camera, and 2 outdoor cams. For security, I use the Simplisafe system. They give you 2 security options to choose from for 24/7 monitoring and it’s between $20-$25/month.

Go with your local security company. They will install the flat panel control center and doorbell camera's you want. I went local here in Lafayette and they have been wonderful for 10 years.

Literally switched from Moni/Brinks last week.
Was strongly leaning toward abode, but went with Ring.
$10 monitoring is half (or less) than everyone else, the cloud storage for cameras is just icing on the top. Also has zwave functionality, and is expanding their "works with" list. Amazon owns it, so I don't have to worry about CAD getting behind Ring and it going end of life the next week.
FWIW, I have nest thermostats and 2 nest/dropcam cameras, the $10 a month was just too good to justify needing everything in one app.

Why though? They still charge $40 a month just to monitor and still do 3 to 5 year contracts.

In my opinion a 2gig or Qolsys system monitored by alarm dot com is way better than anything else on the market. Their panels, peripherals, performance, reliability, smart home control, software, and back end are top tier. Yeah you are going to pay more than $10 a month but you can find deals better than $40 a month. It's a premium service you don't have to worry about the cloud services going away like other automation hubs. You can go the DIY route or have it done by a dealer who can warranty and service it. Sure this is not for everyone but for the home owner that wants a quality security system with smart home control that just works all the time than this is a fine option.
Ring makes good products. I have multiple cameras, pay for their service, even given their products 5 star reviews on Amazon in exchange for free product, but the alarm feels more like a toy to me. Id buy it over Nest. I'm sure it will get there one day as Amazon continues to take over the world.

There have been a few go out of business. Who did you go with?

I actually just came from a 2gig/alarm.com/brinks service. The panel is 100% better on the 2gig but the panel doesn't make the system. It's just a hub you arm stuff with. The ring has cellular backup with monitoring. The integration with Alexa makes the ring better IMO on ease of use and actually arming it more frequently.
I can also customize each sensor where the 2gig I could not.
My neighbor actually had the same system and he tested it 3 times by tripping it and seeing if anyone called. Nobody did 3 times and he cancelled. That's on the monitoring though not the system.

The alarm dot com is going to be as good as the person setting it up. I definitely wouldn't use brinks.
So does ADC plus IP
ADC works with Alexa too plus SONOS
Not sure what you are exactly trying to get at but you can do that with an alarm .com system too.
I've work around these products, including Ring, since they have been on the market, like I said this is just my opinion from my experiences.

How does this work?

Like I said, it was the monitoring that was the issue not the system.

I'm just stating the cheaper product has the same feature and not reliant upon cloud and wifi.

Very limited. Not even close to the same integration.

You can't unless you are a service person. You can't say that you want a notification for the back door but not the front door. Even if you are a service person, I don't think it has that capability.
