I am dropping dish finally! Sick of overpaying when I watch like 5-6 channels. I thought about sling tv. Or fire stick. I already have prime & Netflix but I want to watch live events on ESPN and Sec network for LSU football of course. I like ID and ESPN & sec network not during football season. Any advice on my best route to go?? TIA!! Ps.. I’m ignorant to all this fire stick kodi sling tv etc.

Get the fire cube or the latest Apple TV

Get an amazon HD ANTENNA

Get quality internet service

Subscribe to PSVue. They’ve gone up in price but they are reliable.

I'd say do a little bit of research with the live TV streaming options, the channels you want, and decide what makes sense.

I would never pay for either of those. I can get way more for $100 less.

An Apple TV runs about $170. You can purchase an Android and be able to install what you want with ease. Runs 4k, stronger....etc..

Another vote for ps vue here. I’ve used it in three different states and one different country with zero issues.

You’re going to have to research this for yourself because all of the streaming TV services have different holes in their channel lineups. Look into

SlingTV
PlayStation Vue
DirecTVNow
HuluLive
YouTubeTV

Thanks guys. I just got an iPhone 8 with my last upgrade. Now I wish I would have gotten a droid because I see all these free apps on amazon. Hulu showtime sling. Does Apple TV offer the same ?

I am in the same boat. Canceling my cable as well. I have not a clue when it comes to this stuff as well. I am looking into direct tv now sine I have ATT as my provider for cell service.

Yeah, remember that you can always screencast in great quality.

Those cost about 15 to 30 bucks and acts as a network.

research these that work with your phone

Don't take that as a personal attack. I understand that they are good products.

I have a Roku and love it. Hardware is solid with no issues, it gets virtually every streaming channel due to its popularity (and the fact that they are pretty neutral content wise-Apple and Amazon are both trying to sell you their content), and the software is simple and easy to use.

As far as providers go, you need to research which have the channels you need. I’ve had Sling a few years ago and it lagged at times. They may be better now. PSVue is solid, but is a bit more pricey. I haven’t had YouTube TV, but I’ve heard good things from friends. There is also Hulu live, which had a pretty good deal last I checked, but I’ve never tried them.

Honestly, they each have free trials, so I would try each for yourself and see which works best for you. Rabbit ears are also a must. Locals are broadcasted for free in the best quality available.

So none of the streaming services offer local broadcasts correct? I was thinking of putting an HD antenna in my attic to supply OTA local channels to all three TVs in my house. Can one antenna supply signal to 3 tv’s?

You're the guy that recommends sprint cell service to run all this, right ?

Some do, but it depends on your local market. The bigger the city, the more likely it is to be carried.

As far as antennas go, I’m not sure about that. I would just buy a separate antenna for each TV that you want locals on. They aren’t expensive and would be a lot less hassle.

Depends on where you live. I live in Denham Springs and have DirecTV Now and they just added CBS and Fox (both BR stations). I bought a GE antenna for my attic from Amazon for about $30 and it supplies 5 TV's in my house with 1080 reception. No need to buy a antenna for each TV. If you have long coax runs, you might need an amplifier to boost the signal but don't buy one until you try it.

So I bought an antenna and I thought I was goonto go for locals, but then I realized I couldn’t find nbc. The first streaming service I decided to try is YouTube tv. It is honestly great... I get all the locals sans ABC. The only downside is that it I don’t think it has nfl network, hgtv, or foodtv. I think psvue has all of those things so I may try that next. This is all at my camp in St Bernard btw... wife was pretty impressed with the streaming stuff so far. I might finally be able to convince her to cut the cord at our house as well. Happy days!!!

For local broadcast channels check out Tablo. It is a device with 2 or 4 timers which connects to an antenna. Tablo then sends the signals to the TVs in your house via your network and an app on your TV. It also has DVR functionality so you can time shift broadcast shows. It also allows you to watch your content anywhere via the internet, not just in your house.
