The past two or three iterations of iOS haven't had the polish that many have come to expect from Apple. A lot of long time users are starting to treat x.0 releases like betas and are waiting until x.1.
i have been burnt multiple times with iOS upgrads, and I wait a month before updating.
they just do a poor job on ecosystem QA

Apple's attempt to use iOS8's poor support and functionality on older handsets to push people to get new ones.

I don't like how the new operating systems make my older device obsolete.
Fight the truth! Support the narrative!
Apple supports new devices for 3 years. When they take out new features to get the new OS to run on older hardware people say that they are purposefully leaving out those features to force people to upgrade. When they leave in those new features, people say they are purposefully making their phone run worse to force them to upgrade. It's a lose-lose. I guess they could just stagnate the hardware so the new iOS will always run on older phones. That would be great.

quote:They've been flat with it. These types of problems existed before, but the step up from version to version was huge and people dealt with it because there was so much added functionality. But now, the steps are smaller and the user base is exponentially larger. Even the smallest problem seems huge when the experience hasn't been vastly improved and 10,000 other people are having the same issues.

I think a large part of the low adoption is the massive storage requirement. 16GB is completely inadequate anymore. It think it's ridiculous the baseline iphone didn't get 32gb.
I can't copy text or photos on my phone anymore. it just pastes the first thing I ever copied since the upgrade...it has to do with the operating system being a giant piece of shite. a bunch of added bells and whistles I didn't want.

I refuse to download iOS8. Sticking with what works until they fix all the bugs.

Well I'm gonna check around a little but my wife's was maxed out. I mean like less than 100 mb total. Worked just fine.

The copy paste thing is driving me nuts.

My phone actually froze and shut off for the first time ever when I tried to copy text. It has been doing something strange ever since the update where it highlights everything and the screen starts flashing. Sometimes the screen also starts scrolling uncontrollably too. This generally leads to the Web page showing an error message and reloading. Today was the first time it went nuclear.

Yeah especially when you try to quote someone on TD. I have no idea what it's doing.
Might just switch to chrome for TD posting purposes.

Same. I haven't gotten a crash yet but I get a page load error in safari. When I tried to quote what you said above, it highlighted the middle half then immediately jumped to include the header and buttons below your post. Then I tried to adjust it and it de-selected everything. Quite janky.
Doesn't seem to happen in chrome so I'm going to use that for my message forums for now.

Before Apple's iOS, it would have been unheard of for 47% of all devices/computers to have a major elective update installed within "almost three weeks" of launch.
true, I've been around a long time and typically never update to a major rev of anything right off the bat, and in most cases only when an application drives me to do it. In some cases I rarely upgrade. I've probably used, at most, 3 versions of MS Office through the years. My iPhone 5/iOS 7 combo suits me fine for now.

Here's my question: I upgraded my iPhone 5 to ios 8 when it launched and no major issues so far. Should I upgrade to 8.0.2? I plan on selling my 5 in a week or two when I get a 6. Are the bug fixes in 0.2 significant enough to worry about?

Thing is. Can't see any reason not to.
