For me. Most but I wouldn’t want to. I am not dismissing IT, it is an important and essential part of all large business enterprises and most of the IT guys I know, which is a substantial number, are not condescend pricks. But those that are seem to stand out like a sore thumb and cloud the image much like arrogant engineers do for my profession (not sure it isn’t worse for engineers).

If i need to reference a certain conversation during a live meeting i search for a key word or name, find an email in that chain/conversation, sort by subject and then outlook displays all the emails related to that conversation so i can quickly reference who said what and any attachments that were sent. With this [external] prefix it breaks up the conversation when anyone outside by company replies in the email chain and throws off the successive line of emails in the conversation and i have to go digging for this outside email. It's a HUGE pain in the arse.
I'm not sure why conversation view isn't a viable solution for you, but you really only need to slightly modify your current process to achieve the same (or better, IMO) result.
When you do your keyword search and find the thread you're looking for, simply follow that up with a second search "subject:[paste in the desired part of the subject]", which will show all emails with that subject, regardless if they have the {EXTERNAL] prefix. I feel this is better than sorting anyway because you can pull messages from your entire mailbox and not just the current folder (but of course, you can adjust the search to only search the current folder if that's preferred).

Our IT has started adding "[External]" prefix to all incoming emails from people outside the company.
Just a quick search since I was curious myself for a customer wanting something similar (low priority)

You may be correct, I did not think they were the same thing? Are the educational and testing requirements the same or different? Does one primarily deal with network architecture and the other with the implementation of various safety, construction, manufacturing, and industrial etc. projects as well as maintenance of such?
Help an old man understand.??

ETA: I may have just figured out what you meant, if so

I feel largely responsible for that.

My apologies.

Speaking of that, need to close TD for a bit.

The network team doesn't work on Exchange servers.

Outlook search is somewhat better in 2016. Surprised they still have ya'll on 2013. It's already EOL if I remember right.

That is certainly a valid response

I've seen EOL not mean jack to so many higher-ups that it's not even funny. They care if a warranty is about to run out (ex: the server running your virtual environment) but not if some software is no longer receiving updates.
I've had people come work for us from working on the House side of the state legislature tell me they are still running XP and Office 2007 (although I haven't bothered to try to personally verify it)

Yup, 2016 is way better, but they have even more QoL updates in 365 that add to the 2016 code...
btw, talk to your Server Team, not your Network Team about Outlook issues.
Also, good luck, there really isn't a way to remove the "external" from the sender, you for the meantime are going to need to do a "Subject:[***]" search to find the full threads / conversations... sorry

Network =/= Desktop

Second person to point that out to me. While true, are you guys so compartmentalized that you can’t suggest a solution to explore with another group? I know the answer is no, I know enough network guys who have doubled as or even started in desktop applications and many who interface with the desktop guys when developing enterprise wide custom solutions.

To each his own. All relevant and useful skill sets currently.

I don't think he really wants help. I think he was looking for people to agree with his idea that it's a problematic policy and snap their fingers to magically produce a solution that lets him "do what he's always done" instead of working with anyone to find an alternative solution.
