that must be new because i didnt have a plex subscription for years and had the plex app on a zillion different devices (including friends) and nobody ever complained about a video stopping after 1 minute.

Used to have it from Amazon App Store on my android. That’s where you likely got it.

I would switch anyway. Emby blows Plex out of the water. You just don't realize how crap Plex is until you switch.

The newer updates won’t continually play whatever channel I am on. Once a programmed schedule ends it starts to loop it.

Then the very latest update is giving me all sorts of issues tuning any channels.

It never did any of this before. I had to rollback to an older version to fix this.

What does it do exactly that blows Plex out of the water? I'm pretty happy with my Plex setup so not sure what I'm missing out on.

eta wait..what? I have to pay emby $5/mo so i can use an android app and get album artwork?? hard pass.

Do what? I paid $75 to get dvr and live tv capabilities; not to get access to my server from my phone.

You still haven't provided a single reason to use emby over Plex except they want to charge you to actually use apps.

I've never seen an emby app on any smart tv.

What is so great about it that I'm missing out on?

I already listed it. Native IPTV. No tidal or whatever new crap plex decides to force on you. Emby has lifetime too.

Just trying to help you out. You could try it now or I'll just wait for your megarhread down the road when you realize plex is crap just like google music.

Here. Exactly what I've said the while thread.

Btw, the "free content" that they even list as a negative for emby is plex datamining.

quote:

When comparing Plex vs Emby, they are more similar than they are different - both are low cost and offer a simple method to centralize your media database between multiple clients, including Kodi integration.
A plus for Emby is that there is a business model (Emby Premiere) that brings in some revenue. This, in turn, helps it have some dedicated developers to continually improve it while also listening to the community.

just seems like a bunch of fanboying for Emby when you claim it's so much better but can't really articulate a good reason for that.
that was my question as well. When someone says something blows another app out of the water I expect to see something to support that especially considering there are so many factors that go into hosting your own streaming server.

I have spent several years determining what does and doesn't work compression-wise being served from my PC so I know exactly which 4K and 1080p formats will run the smoothest and what settings provide the best remote delivery to my friend network.

Plex would have to fall completely apart or the alternative would need to be significantly better for me to even consider switching. I'm dialed in right now with Plex and couldn't be happier.

I've literally posted the reasons twice now. Y'all need to read.

Don't use it. Just don't be surprised as Plex continues to go downhill. I told ya so.

All you've said is Emby has native IPTV, doesn't "ignore" its users, and doesn't offer Tidal integration or free movie channels.

None of that "blows Plex out of the water" so excuse me for thinking you might actually bring up something about Emby that matters.

Native IPTV is a big deal when they entire purpose of the program is media streaming. And it doesn't require a mess of a solution like plex does. Which users have been asking them to fix for years and have been routinely ignored.

All the other features are on par as well, so in my book it does blow plex out of the water. I guess I should appreciate being ignored as a paying customer like y'all.

i guess i'm a luddite because i have no idea why i need IPTV. i get 94 OTA channels (lots of crap for sure) and any movie or tv library i care about i add to my plex collection at the quality i desire.

what amazing features am i missing out on by not paying for some IPTV service?

Any sporting event in the world you want to watch. Every movie channel, whatever. Mainly its for sports of course. You get somewhere around 1000 channels depending on provider and it should be less than 15/month for a high end provider with an accurate EPG.

I curate my feed with a external site and run it through Emby. It's like my own cable box with DVR. Another standard feature for Emby. Can record any event, series, whatever and have it available immediately to stream.

Does Emby or Jellyfin have something similar to the old Plex Channels/Plug-ins? I'm actually still using Plex Channels because I stopped updating my server, but that won't last forever.
