I trust your judgement, I can see that being the case for simple setups.
But for me and my DIY mindset, I have to go PoE. The versatility is key for me. Just something as simple as being able to put a wifi AP at one of my locations, or even a RasPi cam that ALSO functions as a wifi AP.

That's it, very simplistic. You either have power or you don't. No IP addressed to config.
I'm not arguing coax is better than IP. I'm just stating that it's a more simplified set up. I really came here to ruffle CADs feathers not get in a pissing match with the board.
As far as wireless goes I agree with you about the battery issue. In fact Ring just patented a solar panel security sign to power devices. In the DIY security arena Nest and Ring are about to make some real noise.
