Just picked up a 14" ThinkPad for $899.

1TB SSD and 16 GB of RAM.

As long as you're comfortable with everything you do being sent directly to China's government database on you, go for it.

When they were still branded IBM (the last of the IBM Thinkpads), they had a "call home" function directly to Red China.

How do I know? I was issued a business model and our IT guys had hell trying to protect sensitive information because of these "features". With it being formally Lenovo for, like 2 decades, now, I just can't imagine owning one.

Not that the other choices are much better, privacy wise, but geez.

I went with the assumption that all of my choices are compromised, so it didn't matter to me.

Even if the laptop were 100% Made in America, we then have Microsoft, Google, and Amazon to spy on us.

I don't care.

I can't really refute that.

The Lenovo hardware is good. Customer support gets mixed reviews.

I'll pick up a refurbished model for half the price on Newegg in 6 months.

I used to be a Lenovo Certified Warranty Technician and was all about some Thinkpads...

But my opinions have changed, I am no longer a Lenovo Tech, and don't like that they are a Chinese company. I don't trust anything from China anymore.

I only buy computers from the United States, Japan, and Taiwan. I feel like Lenovo will be added to the ban list with Huawei, ZTE, Hikvision, and Duhua soon. The DoD has already stopped purchasing Lenovos.

I have not found similar specs for close to the same price. This is about half the price you could have bought this for a couple of weeks ago.

It's probably not too late to take it back, or get a price match

My only thing is that integrated video card. Help a noob understand. With these specs how does this pc compare to others in its class with that video card? What about for video editing?

I bought mine through a reseller and the specs and price weren't too far off from OP's (OP has a better processor and HD space). I immediately reformatted it and put a Linux OS on it anyway.

Yeah, I agree. For me, I'd say the marginal return on investment on a laptop with integrated graphics is around $700. A couple hundred more will get you a much more powerful machine, and if you don't need a more powerful machine then over $700 and you are overpaying for what you are getting.

As for the deal listed, I would not pay $900 for a laptop whose highlights are an outdated i7-10510U and 16GB of ram. You can find way better processors and the same amount of RAM in similarly priced laptops. Not to mention you have entered the price range of discrete graphics instead of integrated. If I was in the market for a ~$1,000 laptop right now, I would be looking hard at the ASUS TUF Dash F15 with the RTX 3060, i7-11370H, 16GB RAM, 144hz display, etc. I don't have any experience with it but at $1,099 that looks like a pretty good deal if you are in the market for a thin gaming/creator laptop or a laptop with some horsepower. Downsides are I wish they had a version without the giant TUF on the top cover, and it doesn't come with a webcam, which is a plus for some and a fixable negative for others especially since we are now a Zoom culture.

It is a Lenovo Thinkpad, more of a business laptop. They are a little more heavy duty than your typical $800 laptop. It also has a 1 TB SSD - I will be putting a lot of photos on it, do a little streaming, and some business stuff. I won't be using it for gaming.

I may be working on it while streaming LSU games or video conferencing. It'll work for me. The Windows 10 Pro 64 is a plus, and battery life will be outstanding on this laptop. ETA: Just got it in the mail. The keyboard is one of the best I've used.

The computer you listed is $300 more and weighs 2 lbs, more. If I was a gamer, I might consider it. This one hits the sweetspot for me and considering I travel for work, it is rugged enough to handle the travel.

$200 more based on the $899 you quoted in the OP. I'm glad that machine works for you, just wanted to say IMO I don't think it is a "nice deal" based on its specs.

Kinda what I was thinking here? In today's digital world I am more concerned with a good video card then RAM more than anything else. To me if you aren't doing 3d modeling, video editing, or similar I'd be looking at sub $500 laptops. But to each his/her own.
