i have had iphones for 5-6 years now. Currently with the 6, and due for an upgrade. Wife got the 7 a couple months ago and it seems exactly like my 6 so im hesitant to upgrade if its nothing different but an ios upgrade. i have never used a samsung but open to the change. Basically wanting to know the pros/cons of each and why one is better than the other. If i go samsung i can wait for the S8 in a couple months. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Samsung is junk. You might as well get the iPhone.

Do you have to go Samsung if switching to Android? So many great Android phones out there.

Then don't. The iPhone 8(X?) is supposed to be a pretty significant upgrade in September. The most consistent rumors are a screen with no bezel, giving you a bigger screen in a smaller phone, wireless charging, Iris/Face recognition for quick unlocking of your phone.

Might be the best phone I've ever used.

You should ask yourself what's important in a phone, features. Also if you dump IOS how much of an investment in apps will you have to buy again w/ Android?

Are you a man, a millennial, or a woman? If either of the last two, I would go with an iPhone. If the former, definitely Samsung and Android. S8 should be pretty nice. I'm holding out for that one myself.

Made the switch from iPhone to Andriod several years ago for the same reasons (nothing impressive in follow-up iphone). In addition, them changing the charger to a non-standard connection felt like a bs move that Sony would pull back in the day.

I have not regretted that switch one day since. I have the s6 active now, and will probably upgrade sometime this year. IPhone is not a consideration for me, unless they actually come out with something new (doubtful).

Pixel or HTC. Droid if you're Verizon and don't want Pixel.

Reluctantly I would go Samsung - now, I've been in the Google ecosystem from my second smartphone on. I started out with an iPhone, but iTunes and the other gilded cage nonsense is a dealbreaker for me.

If you're happy with the Apple ecosystem, then stay with that. I hate Apple, but I concede the hardware is legit.

Is changing providers an option? Could look into a Pixel with Google Fi?

I have an LG Nexus 5x with Google Fi, and I am very happy with them. $20 for phone service, then $10 for every gig you use; you only pay for what you use. E.g. if you sign up for 2gig a month and only use 1.5 gig of data, you will have a $5 credit for the next month's bill.
