After all the advances in cellphone technology, Apple still can’t find a way for videos sent in chains with droid users, to not have the video small and grainy? C’mon man

They could easily do it, but they choose not to because it makes Android phones look inferior.

You should use a cross platform messaging service like Group Me since Google killed Allo.

This.
It’s one of their biggest moats keeping people with the iPhone.
If they opened up iMessages to everyone people would leave in droves.

Like someone said earlier, you can blame Apple for that. They could easily end the green/blue bubble debate by simply porting an iMessage app to Android.
Fortunately, this issue will be moot in a few years as more carriers adopt RCS. Sprint has already gone all in, T-Mobile is currently testing in a few devices, Verizon has green lit the Pixel phones, and At&t is saying "soon®". But the most promising part is that Apple has been open to baking RCS into their messaging app.

What's more frustrating is that an app company out there hasn't reverse engineered iMessages to make videos not grainy. GroupMe, I think, just recently allowed me to send non grainy videos to iPhones, but it's inconsistent. And it requires everyone to get GroupMe. And GroupMe is largely geared toward having a group text, not basic person to person texting. It's good, not great.
I'm considering getting an iPhone simply because of iMessage. And I fricking hate iPhones, but literally all of my friends and family have iPhones. Except my brother. And I talk to him 5 times a year. So... Yeah. I like the Galaxies way, way better. I like everything about them better. The UI is better, the keyboard is better, the camera is better. It's a better phone. Marginally, granted, but better and cheaper. But I text too much to not have the iMessage difference push me to an iPhone. Which is fricking sad.

Buying "technology" for resale value? Something about that sounds weird.

Sorry that’s weird.
Much like cars resale value which is an important factor in your purchase (or should be), cell phones also start dropping in value the day after you purchase them.
As technology and features rapidly change, you tend to buy A new phone every 12-24 months.
It is very pleasant buying a phone for $999 in year one and selling it for $700 a year after use on swappa or eBay instead of buying a $999 phone and reselling for $400-$500 for a similar Samsung.
So yeah if that’s weird then count me in!

Bump. It doesn't seem like RCS is going to end the green/blue bubble divide. Rcs is available now with Google Messages, and it still doesn't work with iMessage.
And I really don't see Apple ever reconciling the issue because their business model is to sell hardware.
Something I cant figure out since moving to Android is how iMessage could be so much better than any messaging app available for android.
I thought WhatsApp would be a good alternative for texts to my wife's iPhone but so far it seems totally inferior to iMessage.
Why cant I just long-hold the message and "react" with a thumbs up or heart? Why cant I see bubbles when she's responding? Lame.

For the record, Facebook Messenger is a pretty solid messaging app imo.
Posted on 11/4/19 at 10:42 am to uway
Because WhatsApp and GroupMe no matter how popular they are, don’t have the resources and man power Apple and Google have.
Posted on 11/4/19 at 10:47 am to Hu_Flung_Pu
So why doesn't google get it done?
Posted on 11/4/19 at 10:54 am to uway
Not sure. It was puzzling why they never put allo and messages together. I think they were banking on RCS.
