Is it mountable? I assume it is.
eta: Just got the email to preorder. I’d really like it for outside on the patio if I can mount it.
etaa: they do sell a mount.

What do you mean? Connect to TV audio?
Posted on 6/6/18 at 6:10 pm to ellunchboxo
Like I already have a play at connected to a Tv. I would like this as a stand-alone speaker outdoors

I need this but I need it to be able to stay outside on my porch and not get ruined by the weather

Not sure if it’s gonna have enough output for an outside application and it is not weather proof. It’s designed for a small room and has less output than a playbase. Will almost definitely need a sub. But I’ll find out for sure when I get one in my hands.
Beam + Sub = $999 WOW

so now people who don't need a room-filling system can get a $399 soundbar with agnostic voice control (google, apple, amazon) and a simple HDMI connection?
yeah, terrible product, not worthy of anything but those smaller rooms (you know, the 99% of non-home-theater-dedicated rooms people have in their houses)

is that a negative?
For a large outdoor space. You don’t comprehend very well.

I was a little concerned about this new "soundbar" since I purchased a playbar not too long ago. After seeing this, I'm actually not all that disappointed.
I have no need for the voice control, as I have an echo in the room where my playbar is. Though I haven't heard it yet (for obvious reasons) It appears that the playbar may out perform it.
HDMI would have been nice on the playbar...but wasn't a deal breaker.

I am trying to figure out how I'm gonna wire my new outdoor porch.
I can't decide if I want to hook up my TV to my normal outdoor speakers (which are facing the yard on the wall to the left of the TV and left of the seating space) or if I want to add a sound bar (or something else) to the TV that faces the seating area.

Without a doubt

The HDMI looks to be pretty useless on the Beam unless you only use the apps built into your smart TV that supports ARC.
I’m not bashing this product CAD just pointing out its limitations buddy.

so how the hell else would you hook it up to newer tvs that are going away from optical completely?

You got some bad info there.
But explain to me how you would hook up a new Apple TV to this Beam ?

you think optical is more pervasive on HDTVs than HDMI?
follow up: where do you see the 'optical port' option in 5 years as compared with HDMI? just as rich and vibrant?
The optical connection is disappearing from more and more products.
quote:
More and more gear are dropping optical. It's gone completely on the latest Roku and Apple TV 4K, for example. It's also disappeared from many smaller TVs, though it lingers on in larger ones, a potentially redundant backup to HDMI with ARC. The reason for this? Soundbars. Most soundbars still persist with an optical connection, and they are one of the only thing that keeps the format holding on.

apple makes tvs? if you're talking about an apple roku-like device why wouldn't you hook up the beam to the tv?
