btw here's a typical 'bluetooth' conversation that used to take place daily.

SO: hey i can't get my iphone to connect to the speaker.
Me: hold on i'm taking a dump but try turning bluetooth off and on on your phone.
SO: thats' not working.
Me: oh yeah i think our daughter paired her phone with it the other day so its probably still trying to connect to hers. Try hitting the 'bluetooth search' button on the speaker.
SO: ok the speaker made the little 'searching for device noise', but it still won't connect.
Me: try deleting the speaker profile in your bluetooth settings and then adding it again.
SO: ok i did that and then i heard the connect sound but its still not showing up.
Me: is our daughter's iphone in there somewhere?
SO: yes, its sitting on the island.
Me: go find her and then ask her to come unlock her phone and disable bluetooth on it so the speaker will quit trying to pair with it first.
SO: grrr. fine. ok she did that but its still not seeing it.
Me: turn the speaker off and then back on and put it into pairing mode. go to your 'bluetooth settings' on your phone and refresh nearby devices.
SO: ok i see it now and i'm trying to add it.... Ok i'm connected now.

And I call bullshite if you pretend you've never gone through this nonsense with a bluetooth speaker. and I call double-bullshite if you claim you have a superior bluetooth speaker that has zero problems with one or more phones. THAT IS A LIE.

Well Sonos isn't a premium sound system.

It's a wireless sound bar that doesn't use one of the most common wireless transmission types.

bluetooth sucks and once i set up my sonos system

I wont disagree that its not the best quality, but sometimes I just want to listen to stuff thats on my phone or someone elses phone real quick.

Sonos is a nice setup, but even some of the cheapest soundbars have Bluetooth.

you realize they make other products right?

as for wireless, i have THREE wires running into the back of my playbar:
- power
- toslink
- ethernet

Premium? I like Sonos. I’m listening to a Play 3 right now but I’m never going to confuse it with a “premium” speaker. It’s not Dynaudio or the like.

are you saying 'premium' equates to audiophile?

are you trying to argue it doesn't get good ratings on just about every audio review site?

of course there's a big disconnect between 'audiophiles' and 'everyone else' but sonos consistently ranks at the top of the list of great sounding speakers particularly after you stereo pair them and run the room-calibration tool.

your dynaudio speakers start at like $3,000 and only sold by music 'boutiques' and sonos isn't going after that market.

if you're equating 'premium' to 'audiophile quality' then you could also argue 99.9% of the rooms that the speakers will be in have not been acoustically designed to support 'premium' sound so this is almost a meaningless term since the goalposts can constantly move.

I’m saying that when it comes to sound quality it’s at the low end of mid-fi. I have an old pair of $150 a pair Atlantic Technology speakers that blow it away in terms of sound quality.

ETA: it’s fine for background music when I’m working or surfing the web but let’s not act like they’re made for any type of critical listening.

what are you comparing that to? a single sonos block speaker? 1? 3? 5?

quite certain i've never done any 'critical' listening but the paired 3s with the sub on my back porch never fails to blow everyone away that comes over to our house.

again, this may be because they have a crappy setup at their house, but don't tell me all these are good for is 'background music' when this setup sounds absolutely amazing and not a single person has come over that hasn't loved how they sound.

Have you ever heard an “absolutely amazing” sounding audio system? Honestly. What’s your experience with midfi and hifi systems? I need a baseline here.

CAD is the type of guy that would use a sheet has a projector screen and think the picture is amazing. Like you said no baseline. He compares everything to what’s in his own little bubble and lifestyle.

I'm sure the answer here is no. I am not in the demographic that is willing to drop 3k on a speaker. I have been in high end audio boutiques but it's hard to compare what I heard relative to speakers in my living room.

Honestly my ears aren't trained to listen to the things I'm supposed to notice anyway.

Actually I used a white shower liner I attached to my big lots gazebo pulled tight with cinderblocks and a projector I swiped from my office for the kids birthday party.

I have been known to use a sheet strung between patio cover columns to show movies for the kids. Of course that was before I had a TV mounted on the patio.

Looking forward to your review of it. Looks like a great product from what I can tell from research.

Typical SONOS product. Pricey but sounds great for what it is, wouldn’t use it for a large size room but will be great for bedroom. Like the little HDMI to optical dongle it comes with in the box. Never seen one of those before. Still don’t care for the clunky app which is even more clunky with airplay.

SONOS gonna SONOS.
