Just moved in to a new house. it is prewired for surround sound and i don't know what a good brand is for that type of thing. I'm used to sound bars and subs. not looking for theater quality sound or anything and don't want to break the bank either. any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

I have klipsh. Think I paid $350/speaker, maybe $600 for the sub. Somewhere in that neighborhood. They’re unbelievable. But I have 2 small kids. It’s like a quadriplegic owning a Ferrari
Impossible to recommend without a budget though. They can range from $50/pair to >$1000 per speaker

I used Polk for my in ceiling, center speaker and sub. I wasn't looking for theater quality or performance, but for the price I've been more than pleased.

Have you ever set your in-ceiling speakers on your receiver to mono instead of surround?

Ive had Polk Audio in my last two houses and for the price its hard to beat.

Jamo
FWIW, your fronts and centers really should be in front of you, not on top

Also a Polk user here. Work great for rear surround and room fill.

Pigging backing on this thread
Just realized my surround sound wires come out on the opposite wall of where I want my projector and receiver. Is that a huge pain in the arse to move to opposite wall?

I had pre wired in-ceiling speakers in two of my previous houses. Tried it for a while then bought some tower speakers because I didn't like the they way in ceiling sounded during movies.

I agree in ceiling doesn't sound great, but it's mainly for our kids and I don't have room for floor speakers, so it is what it is. I switched out my 6.5 for 8 inch in wall and it made a big difference. I also like how Polk has the tilt on there front speakers so the sound is aimed at you. Mine sounded awesome

My speaker searches always start and end with Polk.

I have mirage speakers for the ceilings. Excellent speaker and you can't pinpoint where they come from.

Only in ceiling that can at best do an average job is the rear surround. I'm assuming we aren't talking Atmos here

Id think not. Get in the attic and find where they run down and pull them up. Id try and match the same wire used before (might be hard to do) or just buy new speaker wire.
Just an FYI, but if you use new wires, make sure you get ones that can handle the heat of the attic. I have read on several different sites this is important. Not sure how accurate this is tho. Maybe someone can chime in on this with further information.

You mean on the receiver or on the speaker itself?

I couldn't agree more.
