I updated the OP to show how it looks. The ring lights up at night which gives it a neat look. The app response is pretty quick when someone rings the doorbell, but haven't tested it when not on the home wifi. Cool gadget so far.

I've had one for about three weeks. It's awesome and works as advertised. Only took about 30 minutes to install and set up. I wired it into the spot where the old doorbell was so no charging needed. Also paid the $3 per month for cloud storage of video which is really helpful.

I love it. The only things you really need to consider are whether it will fit because it is about twice as wide as conventional doorbells so if you have a narrow spot it may not be for you. Also you will need a good wifi signal at you front door for the video and audio to work right.

If those are not issues then this is $200 of the best home improvement dollars you will spend.

that just seems like it doesn't fit very well with the trim design. they dont include any type of shims so you can mount it straight?

do you have to go higher than your regular doorbell for the camera to work or is it a fisheye that can see up and down?

No shims included but if you want you could shave off some trim to make it flat. I liked mine pointed slightly in.

It has fish eye camera it can see roughly 160 degrees or so in a circle.

I've only mounted it with 2 sided tape at this point. They didn't provide any shims to mount it straight, but I'll figure something out when I screw it into place. I don't want to cut or sand into the trim just incase something better (and/or smaller) comes along later.

It's a fisheye camera, so the height doesn't really affect the view.

Will get one when they make a smaller version. Wife thinks it's too big!

They came out with the Ring Pro that is smaller, but doesn't have a battery. Pro is 4.50in. x 1.85in. x .80in., regular is 4.98in. x 2.43in. x .87in.

failed to generate GUIDs for people's recordings and so you ended up downloading the view from other perople's doorbells

i mean..a GUID is not exactly a new concept...

Has a few upgraded features but does require a little more installation. However I believe there is a bad firmware floating around that is not upgradeable.

They also have the stick up cam that has all the same features minus the doorbell. Even has a solar power power supply you can use with it.

I've got a dumbass question, but how does 1 go about installing this? Is it more difficult or easier than ecobee3 or Nest?

I have a regular doorbell but I've never unscrewed that and looked at what wires are there. Is it difficult?

Easier

No, but with the pro you are going to have to put a transformer (supplied) in your door chime. Adds an additional step. Heck the regular one you don't even need to hardwire.

second, what a shitty thread to waste your 30,000th post on.

third, why you shilling for Ring? you sell high end alarm systems and you're advocating for this 'not-ready-for-primetime' doorbell crap?

I sell a lot of things that are posted on this board including all the smart things you search for on the HD clearance shelf. I just like passing along the info and feedback I get from integrators to the people on this board.
