Hi folks,
Just moved into a new house with ATT fiber 1Gbps speed. Had Dish for the last 20 years, wanted to try streaming, went with Hulu plus live TV because they had the history channel and YTTV didn't.

Anyway, on my wired laptop when I do a speedtest, I'm getting between 2-300 down and around 300 upload speeds on speedtest.net. I have the Orbi6 with 2 satellites for wireless. Seems I should get better overall speeds, I need to research that a bit more. With your own router, I know you lose some, but seems I should still at least be in the 500+ speeds on wired connections, but here is my other question.

At night, we usually are watching one TV, so only real internet usage in the house, and we still get a handful of 5 second buffering pauses. It's mildly annoying, but trying to figure if it's the internet or hulu.
Anyone else seeing this happen?

I had something similar happen with Sling awhile back. I had to uninstall, then reinstall the app and haven't had any major issues since.

This is assuming your internet speeds are not drastically fluctuating. The speed tests can only tell you what speeds you are getting the moment you push the button.

Check the speed on your phone in the same areas as the TV with speedtest.net or fast.com There might be some interference you're not anticipating weakening the signal where your TV is.

Also, Hulu, at least on Fire TV, is the worst of the mainstream streaming apps by a lot. I run into way more crashes, buffering and streaming issues with it than any other pay platform I've used.

I have Hulu and sometimes that happens. Not sure which streaming device you are using but I have a firestick. It doesn’t happen very often but when it does I do a restart on my firestick. That seems to cure it most of the time

Hulu sometimes buffers but it should be rare.

You probably need a higher quality router with multiple channels.

It's a new Samsung TV that is using the HULU app on the TV, so no firestick or roku device.

And yes, I have had it "freeze" and had to restart the app.

I have the Orbi6 with 2 satellites. About the newest and most expensive you can buy I think.

Ah, seriously? I bought new TV's, this is a Samsung 65", but I should get a firestick or roku and try that?

Prime Day tomorrow. And if a firestick or roku, which model?

I had to go through a couple of Rokus due to buffering and overheating issues, each time I went with a different model.

The one that finally worked for me (and still does) is the Ultra.

As to your fiber issue, getting only 1/3 of your contracted speed is completely unacceptable. You should be getting at least 850-900. Considering you're getting only 200-300 down from your 1G service (while wired to the router) there are really only two things you can do.

1. Make sure your router's firmware is up-to-date. Just because you bought it off the shelf yesterday doesn't mean the firmware is current.

2. Call ATT and make sure they come by at a time when you can be there. Have their tech test from inside the house to show speeds.

If you happen to be able to lay hands on another router to test, do that before calling ATT because if it works fine then you know you just need to replace your router. If not, then that gives you a bit more ammo to prove it's on their end (ie: "I've tested this with two different routers").

Somewhat related. I have AT&T Uverse, which is their fiber optic television service. My in-laws moved to town so I recommended they get it also. It is no longer offered, but now AT&T offers AT&T TV instead. You get a box, but it is a streaming service. Lags pretty often, so they dumped it for Dish. Since they were paying for the service through the end of the month, I took their box so I could use it to watch two football games on two televisions in the same room at my house. At one point I had both televisions on the same game and noticed a pretty large gap. I timed it to see how far ahead the Uverse was in front of the AT&T TV signal. The answer was a surprising 32 seconds.

I have a Fire Cube & Roku Ultra, no preference on either. Which ever you decide, make sure you can plug the ethernet to the device.

FYI, I also have samsung smart TVs and stream Hulu, Sling, ESPN, Prime, Disney+, & HBO with no problems. ESPN app will buffer from time to time, but it usually jumps back a few seconds too so I don't miss anything. Just have to stay off TD until I can reset

I’d worry about this first. That’s unacceptable.

Funny you say that. First UK game @ Auburn, I couldn't get hulu to load on the TV for the first 5 minutes of the game, not sure what was going on, but it would just show a blank screen for the channel the game was on (other channels seemed to work fine).
I got it loaded on my laptop, so we sat and watched it on wireless. When the TV came on, we left it going in the background, so I had both running, the wireless laptop and the wired TV, both on hulu and the laptop was ahead of the TV by like a minute on game play.

I use fire stick 4k and when I have issues with Hulu, (like last night), I go to firestick home screen, settings, applications, select Hulu and open. I click force stop and then clear cache.

Return to home and open Hulu and problem solved.

Works for me but......might not work for you.
