cant wait to hear you defend the use of chromecast audio as the heart of your audio solution.

Friend,
A hardened technology warrior such as myself only seeks to provide you with constructive criticism that using discontinued and vendor-locked products might not serve your interest long-term. Its always best to look forward with technology and not back lest someone may find themselves at a technological dead-end.
While personal attacks can be fun and generate upvotes, actually providing facts which that bolster your technology decisions could better serve the community of your peers and provide redress to any false narratives from one CAD.
Truly,
CAD and his mother

again, you have no proof of this. Google is on record saying it is working on 3rd party integration, and for the time being i dont even think GPM is shut down. So until that happens, and 3rd party integration is not a thing, this whole discussion is premature.

Chromecast Audio was discontinued. I have a few and really like them. No telling when Google will just eliminate them from any interface.
I am also fighting the YTMusic transition. It is not to bad at my house on my Sonos products (I use the Sonos controller) but on my phone in my car since it never auto-plays like GPM did. I have to open the app and hit play the first time. Not the safest thing when my phone is in my pocket while I am driving. That is the most annoying for me.

they literally discontinued it 2 years ago. might not be a bad idea to start planning alternatives because if google decides to take it offline and all the speakers in your house are dependent on this...
"i'll find another solution" sounds alot like 'i have no idea what i'm going to do'.

Complete non-issue at the moment.
If they ever drop support, which if they do is probably years away, I'll probably just switch to....a regular chromecast. lol.

they will and i wasn't aware that regular chromecasts now come with built-in DAC, 3.5 and toslink outputs.

Meh, not that big of a deal when you are streaming stuff anyway.
You're grasping at straws if you only argument is you may lose audio quality at some point down the road if they decide to stop supporting chromecast audio, and at the same time in the future when that happens there won't be available a complimentary product.
But also, it may not even happen for 10 years considering they still support the OG chromecast. I, mean seriously, just take the L.

the built in DAC on the chromecast audio was legendary in a $25 device; thats why they're going for big money on ebay now.

What am I missing? Why not just use Sonos and Spotify (tGOAT)?

Have you ever heard Mr. Blue Skies on Spotify ?
