Now during winter it did fine, but it’s summer. I’m sick of returning to my fricking house at night with it being 78 fricking degrees in my house. Now the App is more than happy to tell me how I’m affecting the climate with my air conditioning habits, but it won’t let me change my schedule. Im ready to take a sledge hammer to it. Any tips, because YouTube is coming short are calling me a hypocrite if I want to sleep below any temperature of boiling point or what Taylor Lorenz finds comfortable.

Same shite with my ecobee. When I have time I'm going to rip it out and go back to a wifi Honeywell that just sets the temp I select and doesn't fight me every step of the way for killing the Earth because I want to set it at 72.

Woke tech company + normal household appliance = shite.

Turn off the eco setting.

Create a schedule with your temperatures.

Problem solved.

until you have to reset your thermostat for some reason and this shite turns back on by default and you have to go through the whole process again.

I like thermostats that do what I ask and don't preach to me about a made up political fairy tale.

Be smarter than the tech you use. My nests are fine. Schedules work great.

Then don't buy a "smart" thermostat. Plenty of dumb, internet connected thermostats on the market that will just do what you tell it to do. Nests, and others like it, are literally sold as smart devices meant to learn and automate outside of your direct control.

With that said, they aren't difficult to wrest control back from. I bought a house with a Nest already installed. Reset it to factory and stripped out all the "smart" settings in less than five minutes. Been in the house a year and a half and have never had to go into the settings again.

Turn off the learning and auto away functions. If you have to reset it just do it again. I’ve had my nest for over 8 years and never had to reset it.

Sounds like you already have the perfect solution.

Why would you even want it?

This. Turn off eco, it'll take half a second. I believe it uses a combination of sensing movement in the house or geofencing with any paired smart phones to determine if people are home.

I leave it on because it's a reliable feature for when I (or more likely, my wife) forgets to adjust the thermostat before we leave for work or vacation. If it ever accidentally goes into eco when we're home, it's a quick turn of the dial or using the app to fix it.

Also, you can adjust the range of Temps when it goes into eco, so you don't necessarily have to turn off eco altogether. I think the default range is setting heat to 60 and cool to 80. You could change it to cool to 75 or something so even if eco does come on when you don't want it, it won't be as unbearable.

I think you persuaded me to buy this one years ago

its 7 day programmable and you can change the temp from your phone. granted I have a pretty regular schedule but I don't see how you could need much more from a thermostat. think you can even do geofencing with IFTTT if you want

Well relying on something from Google seems like a bad choice then.

yep Honeywell is the best. No nonsense.

These Ecobees were already in the new house we bought so I didn't buy them and they're going away as soon as I have the opportunity to focus on ripping them out.

Literally zero value add over those rock star Honeywells.

My Eco temps are 76. As soon as I pull into the garage it turns on and cools down to whatever the schedule is. 71 during the day and 66 at night. I have not messed with it since I moved in.

Did you get done sort of incentive from your utility company to buy/install a “smart” thermostat? If you did, you likely agreed to the shitty schedule.

If you didn’t, you may have accidentally signed up for it and may need to call them to turn it off (we did this). Eco mode is a green leaf, this will be a yellow symbol of some kind.
