That's a hell of a deal. Thinking about picking one up.

Of course Amazon lowers the price of the Echo Dot to $29.99 to match. Amazon is also doing a deal where you get the Echo Dot & TP-Link HS100 smart plug for $34.99.

Decisions, Decisions..

Better deal out of the two.

I bought the Google Home Mini w/ the $10 e-gift card from Best Buy during Black Friday.

Unless you use Amazon music just get the Google Home Mini. It's a smarter assistant.

I do use Amazon Music but never at home. Always in the car. I'm probably going to go with the Google Mini. I have a Lowes gift card and they have them in store.

My only question is do I want the Home or the Home Mini. I assume the only real difference is the Home has a better speaker for playing music.

For the most part that's it.

Home has better speaker and full touch functionality on top. The mini lost the tap feature due to concerns of it listening at all times.

Mini can run off a USB port while home requires using a bulky standard plug.

Any recommendations for smart plugs that work with the mini?

What is better of the two?

I wanted two little ones for the kids and one downstairs. I like the intercom feature.

What is the purpose of these things? Is it just a music player and a method for Google/Amazon to spy on you all day long or do they actually do something cooler? Not trying to be a jerk I just don't understand what they do.

They can play music, turn on lights, TV's, adjust thermostats, order stuff online (only if you allow it to, it's safer than it sounds, you can use it as a speakerphone, create lists (like shoppings lists etc), as it questions, unlock doors. Lots of stuff.

I’m pretty good at all these things. Does this device somehow do it better?

You can say hey google, broadcast message and it will send the message to al of your google homes.

You can do it from your phone or the home, so if you were on your way home you could have it broadcast a message to your wife or you could tell the home to tell the kids it's time for dinner.

I'd be interested to see which device this board likes better, The Google Home or The Amazon Echo..

I'm leaning towards the Home. My only real concerns are that I use Amazon Music Unlimited but I can bluetooth it to the home.
