Bought a new router earlier this year when mine crapped out. Work from home so bought the best router I could from ASUS to future proof as much as possible. Got a new iPhone recently that can handle 6G and it’s awesome. Getting gigabit WiFi speeds on Speed Test. Figured I’d upgrade the cards inside our PCs since it’s such a big upgrade since cards are pretty affordable.

Well I fire them up and can’t see the 6G network. Apparently windows 10 doesn’t natively support 6G. And I can’t upgrade to windows 11 due to hardware.

I’d love to just get a workaround to get the cards to work but haven’t found anything yet. Tips?

There's a workaround for upgrading to windows 11. I forget exactly what I did but it worked.

If your hardware can't handle win11, getting another 45Mbps on your wifi should be the least of your worries

Watch this guys video, he has plenty of them, then follow his directions to upgrade your machine. Microsoft has slowly been removing the restrictions for upgrading on a non-complient machine. He'll explain it all. If you do decide to replace your computer, keep the old machine and install Linux on it. It will make a good Plex server.

The video above is outdated. It was based on a Microsoft article titled Windows 11 on devices that don't meet minimum system requirements. In December, Microsoft updated the article, removing the instructions for installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices and replacing them with instructions for rolling devices back to Windows 10. Proceed with caution.

quote:

Important: Updated December 12, 2024

This support article was originally published on October 4, 2021, when Windows 11 was first released to the public. At the time of publication and still today, the intention behind this support page is to detail considerations for customers to understand the implications of installing Windows 11 against Microsoft's recommendation on devices that don't meet system requirements for Windows 11. If you installed Windows 11 on a device not meeting Windows 11 system requirements, Microsoft recommends you roll back to Windows 10 immediately.

What is the hardware limitation? If it is just a CPU that is a generation or two too old, you can get around that.

Run some cable and don't depend on wifi if you work from home.

There is a ton of very capable hardware getting sunset then.

Maybe THIS will be the time people figure out how awesome Linux in its 10,000 varieties is for the lack of proprietary software they use.

Not tmp module or it isn't enabled? If it isn't enabled you simply enable it on the bios.

This appeared on my old laptop that met every other requirement (TPM, RAM, etc.) about six weeks ago. Win11 has been running for years just fine. This kind of shite is ridiculous. If it met the requirements at install, it shouldn't fall off of the "supported" list without major warnings from back in the day (i.e., Win NT 3.51 to 4.0, 3.11 to 95, etc.) Now I'm going to end up being an unpatched C&C node for something from North Korea, all because my i7 is the wrong model.

And no, I'm not installing Linux on it.

WTF is 6g WiFi? There is wifi6 wifi6e and wifi7 all which win10 handle just fine. Your client device has to handle it also.
ETA. iPhone to 15 are all 2x2ax. 16 is 2x2 7 which might get Gb on WiFi 7 but would be right back at 650Mbps(IRL) same as 5 years ago with wifi6.

lol our house has 6e but no devices to handle the 6ghz band. Not a big deal. Good luck finding a 6e client that actually needs the bandwidth. 2x2 ax is fine for wireless.
If you are on mutigig or use high bandwidth NAS, 10gbps that shite.
