Fellow ATT Fiber & Plex users - stabilizing Plex remote access (and what is this? PIC)

So I currently am using the shitty AT&T provided router/modem and I think I set up the port forwarding properly for Plex but when I refresh my server it keeps saying 'accessible'..then I refresh and it says 'not accessible'. Also nobody can establish a direct connection remotely.

So far I've tried to minimize the changes to avoid messing things up too bad but here's where I'm at:

- Windows 10 Firewall/Defender - no changes made
- Plex server - turned OFF 'manually specify public port'
- ATT router - turned on port forwarding for my internal IP address/port 32400

Am I overlooking a step here or is this just a terrible/shitty router and I need to do the "IP Passthrough" and use my own router instead? Not looking forward to making more changes; we are still moving in and lots to sort through and the ATT modem seems fine at the moment other than a really crappy router admin UX.

Also what the heck is this? Its not the ONT/fiber connection because its in a completely different part of the house and isn't plugged in.

I don't have AT&T fiber but when I set up my PLEX server at the new house I had issues with CenturyLink fiber when I was using their modem/router.

I ended up buying a router that has PPPoE and used that instead of their modem. I had to call to get the username/password, entered that into the router, plugged the router directly into the wall and boom, everything worked.

Also got to send in their modem and save $5/mo in equipment rental.

Does your port show as open/visible if you use something like canyouseeme.org?

You made the port forwarding rule but did you assign it to a MAC or IP address? If you assign it to an IP address, did you set the router to assign your server a static IP address?

The device in your pictures is an ONT. Maybe it's old and abandoned, but that's what it is.

Enable "Manually specify public port " and specify port 32400. Turning that option off means PLEX will try to configure your router automatically using uPnP. Your router probably doesn't support uPnP.

If that doesn't work, temporarily turn off the Windows firewall to see if that's the problem.

also, the picture looks like the ONT. Did you get a BGW210 gateway?

this is correct. At&t has removed all versions of uPnP from their hardware. There is zero allowance for uPnP on at&t fiber internet services using their hardware.

ok so turn off port forwarding in the router software and just use the plex version of port forwarding?

In the router, leave port forwarding on. Forward port 32400 to the private address of your Plex server.

In Plex, enable "Manually specify public port " and specify port 32400.

ETA got it! I missed after setting up to port forward in the router UX the "needed by device..." option to specify the machine.

I just missed that step I think. Testing now..

The device is going to be your server. Is your server a Oneplus phone?

It says 'Changes saved' -- the screenshot is after it's returned back to the page and 'Act of War' and his 'OnePlus' are the first options.

The Dell-3620 is his server.

Is there newer gateways from the NVG599? My plex has always worked, never touched anything.

yes. It has its issues for sure. Overall, the at&t gateways are rock solid, though. They will only go down for reboot when there is a firmware update at 2AM. It sucks they dont have true bypass but overall, they aren't bad when you dont have to pay for them.

this thread is about the fiber internet service. i believe that gateway is a U-verse/DSL gateway.

Regardless, from what I gather the NVG599 does not have uPnP, either.
