The Exynos 2200 and its AMD mRDNA GPU trounce Apple's A14 Bionic in initial benchmarks

quote:

In the Manhattan 3.1 test, the Exynos 2200 registers at 170.7 fps, while the A14 Bionic clocks in at 120 fps. That advantage carries over to the Aztec Normal benchmark, where the Exynos 2200 hits 121.4 fps, versus the A14's 79.9 fps. A similar differential exists in the Aztec High test, with the Exynos 2200 recording 51.5 fps—the A14 Bionic trailing at 30 fps.

Those numbers show a performance differential in the region of 45%, with the advantage going to the Exynos 2200. According to Front Tron, these figures were registered back in June running development beta drivers provided by AMD.

It's a very strong chip, has an AMD current gen GPU on it like a chip for a PS5/Xbox but scaled down to a mobile level.

That's nice. Especially since the A15 comes out in about 4 weeks.

Not shocking, Apple has nevered really led the cutting edge of the hardware components game anyway.

It's still going to be behind this, Apple doesn't have a full blown AMD GPU lol. It may get closer though since this is a current 45% gap, may get it down to 20-30%.

Well actually the A14 Bionic scored the best prior, and by a decent chunk. Now that bar has been raised significantly again with Samsung SoC having an RDNA GPU.

Yeah, like wut?

This chip is exciting, I can see a world in another couple years where the AMD GPU is powerful enough in a mobile chip to do some legit handheld gaming ala Switch/Steam Deck.

Not sure if sarcasm, but SoCs were not a novel idea when the M1 came out nor did putting one in their macs create "cutting edge" performance.

so a brand new chip is faster than a year old chip? sounds like an example of Moore's law. I hear the PS5 is better than the PS4 too, crazy right?

Care to explain why he's gushing over a brand new chip being faster than one that is at least a year old, and how he knows a brand new chip that's not even out yet won't be as fast or faster?

Regardless how you feel about iPhone or Exynos; it’s good to see stiff competition. Apple would get lazy if someone wasn’t keeping them in check.

Historically. Apples one year old chips have beaten the latest and greatest from Snapdragon and Samsung. So yes this probably means the A15 will be a little bit behind.
