i dont have nest and have no need for redundant light control because my lights are already dialed in.

Controls my entire house including my tv. May not be for everyone but as a home automation tool it's worth every penny to me. I don't ask it questions and never intend to. It also doubles as an alarm And timer which come in handy when cooking .

to tasker on your phone right? When you leave the house doesn't that functionality leave the house with you? I have to use tasker for stuff too but all things equal if you can eliminate tasker profiles for something that is natively baked in that is a good thing.

Also it definitely works with GE smart switches (didnt see that listed). So your list probably isnt complete.

With that said though get the GH so you can have access to your music.

no. 100% of my smart lights are on schedules or controlled via sensors. i just don't have a need for voice control of them.

Most of mine are as well but there are definitely instances you can think of where voice activation is helpful (though not required).

Ok google(alexa) it's movie time would be one example. Ok google merry christmas turned on my tree and mantle and dimmed my overhead lights this christmas season.

Ok google it's bedtime if you decide to go to bed earlier than your good night robot is set for.

I'm incredibly impressed with the google home's search abilities so far. Can't wait for 3rd party integration

The echo works perfectly fine with a Wink Hub. It syncs with Amazon Prime and Amazon Music. It can control your Nest or Ecobee Thermostat. It will play your music from any number of streaming services. It syncs with your Amazon account to allow ordering products and create lists (great for use in the kitchen/pantry areas). It has a growing number of "skills" that form the backbone of its usefulness.

I have android auto too, so if I ask it a question at home, it has that as the suggested route when I start the car. Same with the playlists. Pretty good stuff.

I don't do home automation, but asking for the temp, setting alarms and timers, playing ambient music, and other simple queries work as expected. I've been rather impressed with how good the voice recognition is.

ETA: I haven't yet investigated "skills".

It works with the hub. I synced my hub to the Echo, not my devices. The Echo still controls the devices. Non-Amazon related.

Maybe so, but hard to compete with illegal services. Fact is the device will still play music from the apps, free or paid

You can put a passcode protection to keep the order from being processed (This also applies to available banking skills). The device can still add it to a list, put it in your cart, or add something to an external list app (such as grocery list app, etc.).
