frick Waze. Just used it to go downtown to harbor freight. Took me all over the damn place and then put me right beside the intersection where I had to go across all lanes of traffic to get where I needed.

I use both google maps and waze at different times. Usually I'll use Waze for commuting because I like the fact that I can see happenings along my route, and I feel like I can compare better. Google Maps has significantly better voice guidance though, especially in cities and routes I'm not familiar with. When I'm traveling (like here in Perth) Google Maps is better because I can't dash mount the phone (like I can in my own car) to see a visualization. I don't feel like it's better with traffic, but when I'm in a foreign city, I'm more concerned with not getting lost than I am with traffic.

Waze has turned to shite since google bought it.

I think it taps into the DOTD with the measurements that detect has fast traffic is flowing.
I figured it used location data of anyone with a phone that has allowed google to access their location data. That's why it's so accurate even on small town roads. Everybody has a cell phone

I had not looked it up in a while but did this morning. Google no longer uses traffic sensors at all and the main source of data is when someone turns on share your location.

Looking into this I think I may have answered my own question not using Google. Inrix uses the same (similar) data Google does from the phones.
INRIX’s free traffic app is very simple and backed with some pretty cool technology. The app is powered by a cloud platform called Autotelligent – which is also found in dashboards of luxury cars like BMWs and Porches – that makes proactive decisions and optimizes your route. INRIX calculates the time it will take you to reach your destination based on current traffic conditions while predicting future traffic conditions.
The traffic app also lets you see projected travel time if you were to wait a while before leaving. This way you can find the optimum time to travel in addition to the best route. What sets INRIX apart from Waze and Google Maps is its ability to learn the unique driver’s habits to give every user a customized route based on their preferences.
This app also has a police toggle, not sure how it's used yet.
It's also giving me street level congestion like Google Apps does.

Thanks. Will compare to Waze soon.

I just started having to commute into the city every day coming from Woodstock
On the way home, I have decided I will use Waze to tell me if there are cops and use the HOV lane until I am proven otherwise that this is a bad idea

Just get a RealDoll for the passenger seat.

I'm going to try this app. Better not be shite.

Long time Waze user here. I generally think the app is shite but will use it over anything as long as it's the only one identifying cops.
same. My issue with Waze for the last year or so is that it tells me to turn wayyy to late and i sometimes have to make agressive moves. It should allow the user to tweak personal settings as far alerts and things like I just discussed.

I regularly miss turns.
Oh, and I could not care less about a vehicle on the side of the road.

You can turn off the alert for vehicles on the side of the road if you like. I have mine set this way to avoid unwanted alerts.

I'll have to check on that. I haven't dug around much.

'Vehicle on side of road' is annoying but 'object in road' has helped me dodge wood and metal in the middle of I-10 while cruising in heavy traffic at 70+ mph.
The 'cop ahead' seems to be already pulled over for a ticket or accident most of the time but it is still nice to know where they are at.
Waze is great for rush hour commutes on the freeway but for anything related to actual navigation I'll use Google maps.
Since I discovered split screen mode I'll sometimes have Waze and gmaps running side by side.

Eh. I get that. But say I'm trying to take a left at a major intersection 1/2 mile ahead. Waze will tell me to take a left on the upcoming side street, hang a right, then take a left onto the road I was trying to left turn.
So now I've got two take two left turns that are close to a major intersection...which are essentially protected by the light.

Hey man..... Let me tell you about your little app...... It took me through not 1 but 2 closed roads both of which have been closed for some time and on a road with heavy traffic due to construction.

Not my app but looking into it. Have not had time to test it yet so thanks for the feedback.
