Does anybody use AT&T modem they give you when you get Fiber?

i had eero at my old house but it was a very large single story house.

i dont *LOVE* the ATT modem/router but i've moved it around to the point it gets decent coverage anywhere in my house but i also run quite a bit of ethernet.

I didn't for over 5,000square feet. It depends on where the gateway/router end up. Just get the basic setup, figure out where your signal drops, if at all, and we'll solve that problem when we come to it.

Just ordered ATT fiber for my daughters rental house in Fort Worth. Opted for the WiFi extender for an extra $10 per month based upon the fiber will come into the house on one end so I added the extender to ensure signal all the way to the other side of the house. Don’t know if it will be needed but for $10/month it didn’t bother me.

Wish we had fiber at my house in BR. 1 Gig w the extender and tax for $100/month. Makes me hate Cox that much more.

Let us know when she plugs it in, and if there's still a problem. I imagine there will be, but I expect that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

You were told an extender will fix it. Depending on the architecture of the house (where are you crossing chimneys, going through external walls, etc.) what you were told may not make any difference.

Especially with generic extenders that ISPs like ATT tend to provide, having an extender even on the network can decrease speed and throughput to anything connecting to the main router, even if there is nothing connecting to the extender. But they didn't tell you any of that.

If the extender is hardwired on Cat5, that's fine. If it's just a wireless extender, she will dislike you within seven days (even though it's due to AT&T overpromises.)

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, that's cool. The general default of ISPs (AT&T) is that the solution is to sell something else that will "fix" the problem, so your daughter calls you and complains it doesn't works three weeks after the trial period expires, etc.

I do love how you have discovered hate for Cox @ $100/mo, when much of Houston has been paying 50% of that that for over a decade for fiber. Your hate for Cox should have existed 90 seconds after you got your first Louisiana cable bill!

My hate for cox block cable isn’t new. Sadly BR still doesn’t have real competition in the market. But the feds sponsor pulling fiber into towns of <2k people…smh

I use the stock router. One line goes directly to my PC and another line goes to my google puck. Works fine.

After a few weeks of using this I put ours in passthrough and went back to Google Wifi. The coverage in our house is better, even with a single AP sitting right next to the AT&T device.
