We're doing away with smart phones, don't like our kids seeing us peck at a screen. Anyway, it's been over a decade since we had a car GPS unit like a TomTom. We will always have a hotspot with us for connectivity if needed.

Maps is our biggest loss sans a smart phone, anyone else that has went this route, what other transitional annoyance should we look out for.

gas stations, cops, places to stop for food, hotels, whether something you're going to visit is open or not, shopping, communicating with your family & friends, listening/watching sporting events on the road, checking your video cameras at your house to make sure no one is breaking in, office/work apps so you can work without being tied to a laptop at a desk...

damn you're braver than i am.

... then don't peck at a screen?

There's probably an app to make you stop dicking around on your phone during set times. Delete social media apps, games, etc.

As CAD pointed out, you will be missing a whole world of convenience and productivity. If you think maps is the only thing you'll miss, then you either haven't thought about it or you haven't even scratched the surface of what a phone can do. My phone saves me hours each day.

and in the process teach your kids about self control by observing you. Or give up smart phones and let them watch you give up and crawl back in a few months.

Have driven a couple of million miles all over the US. and a dozen other countries , and have never needed a smart phone, or any of this stuff, the OP will be fine without it.

This…seems like cutting your nose off to spite your face

You could just….not peck at a screen as much?

I get the hesitancy with kids and smartphones. But just doing away with them isn’t going to help show them how to maturely handle having one.

I mean I don’t NEED a car to get where I’m going, but man, it makes it easier

What kind of world do you think your kids will be living in when you are gone? But just buy a new car with built in navigation and maps. Geez.
