Can someone answer this for me please (I've gotten very mixed answers via google).

If I keep the very basic cable (where I would not be able to watch ESPN on TV), would I then lose access to ESPN, ESPN 2, etc... on watchespn.com?

Your cable provider offers a package without ESPN?

I thought all of the cable TV providers provided ESPN with the most basic cable package.

I have Cox. To my knowledge, their cheapest plan does not come with ESPN

Unless I am mistaken. But that's what their little channel chart thingy said on their website.

It's only a matter of time before they start cracking down on sharing passwords. I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened already.

I use my in-laws log in. However, I still pay for basic cable - its like $55 with internet (vs $40 with internet alone). I typically use the watch espn app, but if it is a USCe game that I know I will be getting texted about, i just watch in standard def on basic cable so it's not a minute behind.

Your WatchESPN subscription will mirror your cable subscription. So if you are in an area where The SEC Network is on a premium tier and you just have a basic tier then you won't get SEC Network on your WatchESPN app. So I would assume you wouldn't be able to get any WatchESPN channels at all if you subscribed to a cable package that didn't include any ESPN channels.

I don't get watchespn (I dont think), I dont pay for digital tier, so I get espn in standard def and no watch espn.

This makes the most sense, but I couldn't find any evidence online to back it up.

I'll just assume this is correct for now.

If I was paying for cable and here you come asking for my login info so you can't get by without a $100/mo cable bill, I'd tell you to fly a kite.

Tell them to get netflix and you get their password. That's how our family does it. I did watchespn, brother did netflix, sister did hulu, dad has hbogo
