Curved vs Flat 4K debate

I'm gonna be getting a 4K tv shortly, and debating whether to go flat or curved. My brother has a curved 55" inch Samsung, and he loves it. I'm probably going 65" inches, and was wondering whether it would be better to get a curved or flat. Any advice from other 4K owners?

I have not had a curved screen, but reviews generally say it is a gimmick. LG has quit making them. Looks like Samsung is the only maker, or one of the few, still doing curved models.

I took a curved Samsung home to live with my family for awhile, in addition to subjecting it to a full CNET review. In the end, I answered my own question with the headline "Great picture quality, but the curved screen is a flat-out gimmick."
Since then most of the video geeks I know, including just about everybody I hear from on Twitter, Facebook and article comments, pooh-poohs curved TV screens as a useless distraction.

The only real image-quality benefit I saw to the curve was a reduction in reflections in some cases. That benefit wasn't worth the slight geometric distortions introduced by the curve, not to mention its awkwardness when hung on the wall. That said, the curve doesn't ruin an otherwise good picture.

Excuse for Samsung to pad the price for an extra feature.

Would you recommend Samsung, LG, or Sony?

1. Sony 2. Samsung 3. LG.
But I'm a known Sony guy. I have a samsung tv I bought on a great deal last year and it has been pretty damn good.

There is no debate, unless you have a actual home theater room where the screen goes wall to wall.

Flat
The model depends on the brand.
I just bought a 60" Samsung ku8000 4k uhd that has a great picture for $1299. If you go to the 9000+ models Sony takes it.

Curved TVs have been pegged as gimmicks for awhile now. They say more viewing angle but it's actually less.

The only time I've heard curved recommended is for larger single monitor applications instead of a dual monitor setup.

I was a Sony guy for a long time. I'm more or less brand-agnostic right now. I bought a Vizio 65" 4k (P-series) and the picture is fantastic.

It's definitely a gimmick and a way to charge more for same set. Don't pay more for a curved screen. We got a 65 inch LG OLED this past Thanksgiving and ended up getting the curved screen because I thought it looked cool and was the same price as the flat panel.

I ended up getting a Sony Bravia X800E flat screen.

I got my boss the Dell 34" curved monitor instead of dual monitors. Curved screens definitely work in that situation

The point of a curved screen is to immerse you. It's impossible to be immersed in a 65 inch tv sitting 10 feet away. Makes much more sense for a computer monitor.
