We have three TVs. One doesn't get much streaming use. One gets a little and the last one gets the most, but I don't believe its heavily used relative to others. This still pisses me off.
My last three months I've averages right at 450gb. Luckily (or not), I don't game on the PC nearly as much as I use to because of family/time.
I want to throat punch ATT CSRs so I haven't had anything from them in about a decade besides cell. Love government backed monopolies.

Is the concept of fair use bullshite? Do some users really slow internet down for the rest?
I use Spectrum - no data caps.

According to Cox, this won't effect 98% of customers....so I don't see how those few who stream at high levels are making that much of a difference.

We are cordcutters and have cox. We average about 400gigs/month. I'm still tempted to switch to Eatel out of principle.

That depends on the infrastructure
since Cox doesn't use fiber to the door, when everyone using the same node is on at once you will notice a difference.

I am on COX internet 150 MB plan:
Running NetFlix, amazon Prime and Sony Vue Entertainment package. I cut the cord with COX in March.
4 TV's in the house plus tablets phones etc.
The last 2 months I have used 1042 GB and 1097 GB.
I am usi9ng the amazon streaming boxes. They keep streaming even if you turn the TV off. I am going to have to figure out a way to get the kids to turn off the boxes.

You have to go to the home screen on fire tv then turn your tv off
Unless you have a smart tv the turns the fire tv on and off. My fire tv can also turn on my tv to bring up the main menu.

Strategically it is a pretty impressive way for COX to give the bird to cord cutters. You have to remember that the TECH board will overindex in internet usage so of course it posses off this population the most.
Alternatively, what if COX offers an internet plan that is unlimited for $500/month and makes it where you are incentivized to move back to cable?
I hate the cable companies but I can't blame them for trying to keep their cash cow fat and healthy.

It's the only population it pisses off, and it was really the only move for Cox to make. I knew it was coming. I am somewhat relieved that the cap is not lower, but it's still low enough that I'm going to have to really pay attention to my torrenting. I'm not even a cord cutter.

Anyone in a market that Cox doesn't have a monopoly will drop them

This has much less to do with total bandwidth used and much more with Cox overselling bandwidth and not upgrading infrastructure to compensate for utilization at peak times.
Not to mention that if this were actually the problem, it could easily be remedied much more satisfactorily by simply deprioritizing heavy bandwidth users during heavily congested times. So if a node is congested, anyone who has used less than 1TB in the past 30 days is put at a higher priority than those who have used 1TB or more, for example.
But this has nothing to do with congestion or overuse. This is simply a money grab by Cox to fight the trend of cord-cutting and recover losses to their cable TV services. Nothing more, nothing less. Not to mention cord-cutting will become gradually more common soon simply because of 4K TVs slowly being adopted. The only decent way to get 4K content is through the internet, and Cox doesn't have a 4K solution yet.

That would be silly expensive. Users can always get on a business plan for unlimited. I pay $120/month for 120/20 business class service to my home through Cox and I have no cap, plus I get perks like static IP, unblocked ports, prioritized bandwidth, biz class support, etc.

Their cap is 1TB on their low end user speeds. People with 15 down are not going to burn through a TB in a month.
Their gig service doesn't have a cap.

Hell they don't even need to run fiber to the door.
The fiber to cabinet system works just fine and use coax for the last mile. Increase the amount of cabinets or nodes and decrease the amount of users and distance to each house.

Can't get gig at my house. All of the other internet tiers for Cox and att have the same 1tb cap which is fricking retarded.

finally got this email
my last three months were 250, 250, and 500 GB; so i should be safe
this is shite though and I'd be livid if I were a user potentially affected

you folks whining about 1TB data cap don't know how lucky you have it. my provider (suddenlink) rolled out a 250gb data cap. had to jump 2 tiers to get to unlimited - and even then its a soft cap. theyll throttle you at 1tb (but wont actually tell you that)
data caps under 1 tb should be illegal on broadband connections.
data caps in general should be illegal unless the provider offers an unlimited tier as well.

Cable one I have a 700GB with 200 down for $100 a month, the next tier is the same speed but a 750GB for $130 then the next is 200 down with a TB for $155. Their policy is to automatically pump you up a tier if you break your cap 3 times in a year.
Their gig service is next and its $175 a month a still have a fricking 1.1TB a month data cap. fricking highway robbery.
