Chromecast W/Google tv VS Roku VS Shield

So trying to decide which media player to go with, chromecast with google tv plus the hard wired plug vs the roku ultra.
This will be for my living room and Bedroom TVs as these are not roku or android tvs.
price-
roku ultra- $99
chromecast with google tv plus ethernet adaptor- $70
Nvidia Shield- $199
with google tv you do get deals on like netflix etc even if you already have those apps. So google tv is 100% cheaper.
I know both can do upto 4k, 60 fps.
So question becomes, which is better for live sports? Essentially which will allow me to switch back and fourth between games the easiest?
Anyone got any insight?
the other option is going to be the NVIDIA Shield. I would think the upscaling would be good for games, but i could just upgrade to 4k on Youtube TV too.
whats the consensus here for best streaming expierence?

i have a drawer full of every chromecast generation up to the first 4K model. google lost me when they started getting shitty paranoid about the casting feature and locked it down until it was all but unusable. even something as simple as screen mirroring was taken away due to the 'copyright cops' so frick that noise.
i hate them all.
i have a firetv 4k box and 3 firesticks. i'm phasing them out because they have slowly become unbearably slow (even after factory reset..the constant updates eventually render them useless)
i have 2 ROKU TVs and a Roku 4K+ stick. LOVE THEM ALL. i can't imagine going back to anything else.
having said that, ROKU is in a pissing match w/ google right now regarding YTTV so its not listed as a ROKU app right now but it seems to work just fine; i launch YTTV on my phone and select the ROKU i want to use then it 'converts' regular youtube to YTTV on the roku and i can channel surf, etc. You just have to 'initiate' YTTV from your phone one time whenever you turn the TV on and want to go there.

You can get to YTTV from the YouTube app on the Roku.

Shield is the best device. Obviously a price difference so it might not be worth it. The AI up conversion is unmatched. The android interface is very fast and easy to use.

well that is prolly the way to go.
but the AI up conversion...is that needed if you are watching 4k on YTTV?

are you 100% sure every channel on '4K YTTV' is 4K? If not, there you go.
plus you want good upscaling for other input sources to make the picture the best it can be.

no but to be honest, i dont watch a ton of YTTV except sports. I guess i will just bite the bullet. its only 2 tvs at most.

Going to agree that the chromecasts are trash. I wouldn't use them if they paid me to use them.
The shield, I have no experience with, but it seems like a good device. (Just a bit expensive.)
I had a roku premiere+ for years and it was a flawless device.
It wasn't until recently that I got an apple tv 4k as a gift and it has been a pretty good device, but I'm not a big fan of the remote.
Given the choice you've outlined, I would lean toward the Roku devices.

I have Roku's but got a free chromecast and it's awful. The picture is great when it works and stays connected to the wifi, but that seems to be about half the time.

well i would be getting the ehternet plug upgrade. but i get your point.

Damn that sucks, I haven't had that problem with my free one.
It has more issues with the sound hand-off to my stereo system than Shield does though, solved by quick on/off though. Shield would do it occasionally but not as much.
The error is screen blackout when "switching to external speakers"

I have Roku, Fire stick and Chromecast with Google TV.
Chromecast wins, not even close. Having google assistant is nice.
If you have YouTube TV, has nice integration.
I have no complaints.

Just wanted to mention that the new Chromecasts are more of a roku/Firestick type of device than the mirroring device they traditionally have been in the past.
I’m sure that doesn’t change your opinion, but they have at least updated it enough to be a competitive option.

If that's the case then they might be worth a try as long as they're price competitive with roku. The last one I tried would buffer all the time. I tried every setting I could to make it better. Even returned it and got another to see if it was just a lemon. That one had the same issue.
Neither the Roku or Apple TV had any issue with buffering whether by wifi or ethernet, so I dunno. I'm just leery of recommending google products after that.

half the price of roku ultra, but if you get the hard wired adaptor only 30% less.

I just went from Amazon fire 4K to the new Google Chrimecast with Google Tv…stupid name but whatever…it’s light years better than the fire stick. The main reason I wanted to try it is that we have YouTube tv and it never worked on the fire stick. I’m also getting Atmos from Netflix now and couldn’t with fire stick. It was $50.

to me this is by far the worst of the streaming devices. Slow as shite. would never use again.
