Looking to purchase one simply for paying bills surfing the internet. What price range am I looking at? $300-$400 maybe. Not worried about saving pics. Use my phone for that?

A $200 Chromebook will be perfect for you.

You can go to a local library and get free access to a PC whenever desired for $0.

I am pretty pleased with my chrome book for what it is. You don’t get much drive memory so you won’t be running software programs. I have a desktop for games and software.

I use it to surf, email, shop online, watch tv when Mom is watching her shows and due to poor health I need to be semi upright like the recliner so use headphones/buds with it. Can use Google Docs for spreadsheets and word processing too.

I’d look at the Dell Outlet as well. You could get a pretty nice laptop in that range, would run more programs, and has potential for upgrades in the future. They generally come with the same warranty as a new Dell. Might need to search for coupons to lower the price.

That reminds me: I’ve been looking at cheap laptops for someone and… when the frick did 8GB become normal and 4GB become acceptable again? Surprised the shite out of me. I thought 16GB had been the norm for years now, but I was apparently quite wrong

Man, im in IT so i always go for best bang and for the right price in this use case would accept 8gb…but yeah, it was years ago in enterprise stuff we set 16gb as norm outside of use cases where needed more ram. Im still perplexed seeing 12gb models

What is the best laptop for a college student? Loaded with Microsoft Office.

I would just get an iPad and keyboard for that.

And you'd spend 2x-3x more than a cheap laptop/chromebook.

If a table and wireless keyboard is the strategy, then there are much less expensive options to be had.

Best laptop, best laptop for value, or the absolute cheapest that meets those specs?

Chromebook could technically use Microsoft Office Online products, but most won't support the desktop applications. That may be one of the cheapest options.

Here's a decent laptop on a budget:
