i'm so confused. people living in the little 'google fiber' pockets around nashville where they've expanded to don't have data caps and thats in a 'post NN' world.
And how does google make the most money? By you being online as much as possible. How do traditional ISPs make the most money? By you paying them for internet and using it as little as possible. Why is Google having such a hard time expanding? Because traditional ISPs are doing everything they can to keep them out. Because many ISPs have government grants no-compete agreements in many municipalities.

For what it's worth in this thread... I've checked my router's receive data and it matches with Comcast's numbers.

Yeah, these are the same idiots that are saying that we didn’t have NN before 2015.

how does your view reconcile say the fact tmobile gives me unlimited video & audio streaming for my phone? wouldn't that also be a 'negative' to NN? why is that not seen as a positive for no NN? isnt that the market reacting and providing a better service than the competition for a better price?
What the other answers didn’t mention is that there is actually competition in the wireless market. If you don’t like what T Mob is doing, you’re welcome to go to Verizon or Sprint or ATT or Cricket or Boost or Virgin etc etc.

FWIW, this is how Binge On works, all video is streamed at a max of 480p.

I honestly dont know how anyone uses 1024gb. I leave youtube playing for hours upon hours....often all night long after i've fallen asleep. Maybe 4k?
Steam, Xbox, streaming Plex on a remote connection. 3 years ago, before I had the unlimited option I bought my kids 6 Xbox games for Christmas. With updates and expansion packs that was 500 GB alone.

If I wanted to go to 100 mbps I'd get capped at 1 TB/month.
I have 100 mbps with ATT and don't have a data cap. That starts at the 1 GB/month option.

thats kind of like the ISP 'nuclear option' to control what you're doing on the webz. i don't see how NN would help this in any possible way.
Doesn't have to be NN, the republicans in Tennessee suck at the teet of Comcast, AT&T, etc.
Don't you remember the big party those assholes threw for the republicans in Nashville for making that law so utilities like glorious EPB couldn't serve rural customers with cheap gig service even though those assholes won't do it.
Republicans help those assholes every chance they get by blocking access to poles for Google as well.

I feel for you CAD703X. I have 3 kids and a wife that would burn thru comcast datacap in about 2 plus weeks. My saving grace was AT&T put fiber thru my neighborhood like a year ago. I told Comcast to shove it and got the 1 gb fiber plan that includes unlimited data per month. I now use streaming devices for tv and have super fast internet all for about 130 a month. No more worries about that stupid data cap crap
Good luck man. To the Single 20 something guys or 2 family households bragging about that 1 tb is plenty of data

We use Directv Now, Netflix and YouTube and don’t come close to going over a TB. Don’t do any large downloads.

I'd love to know how much was due to zootopia and secret life of pets. My kid watched those 2 movies like 50x this month.
Netflix needs to figure out a way frequently watched movies don't punish you each time you watch them.
This is also why I said Kodi is dead. Never mind trying to find a source that works, who wants to restream the same movie constantly?

Can't you do offline Netflix for that?

That's what I was thinking. Not sure about those two movies specifically, but Netflix allows you to locally download many of their titles.

Jeez...I don't understand how I use so little data. We probably watch during the week 4-6 hours of TV a day. Most of that is my daughter on Netflix, Disney Jr, or something like that. The other is Terrarium TV, DirectTV Now, Netflix, and Hulu....I'd say on the weekeds we stream most of the day. I have conditioned my family to turn it off when you aren't watching to so I guess that helps but in the last 3 months I did 450GB in October, ~500GB in November, and ~600GB in December (this is where my wife and daughter were home a whole week from school). I don't understand how I stay that low. We have 0 traditional cable.
ETA I'm sure that none of this is in 4K....but to be honest with you. 4K streams aren't worth the data trade offs to me.

I don't need to stream 4k. Maybe on occasion when using Amazon prime.

in a free market ISPs would be force to ditch them for competition.
I’m having trouble seeing the repeal of net neutrality as a move away from “free markets”.
How exactly does Net Neutrality make increased competition more likely?

you're totally missing the point. do you even notice when shows are in 4K these days? i know i don't. i just click on a netflix show and watch it and maybe OCCASIONALLY i'll look at the little icon that says it.
you don't get to choose now right?
