Amazing. These $100 game cabinets are the greatest thing ever.

Got the artwork. However, the control panel artwork didnt matchup with ANY cab in the market so I had to make my own.

You probably should of did custom artwork based on on a standard layout. The standard layouts are much better for comfort when playing and ease of button use. This is why I am a big proponent of the standard curved layout after having a straight layout for years. Easily my big regret when I made my cab. I’ve considered redoing it several times.

Looks great though.

I agree on that but I wanted the original Nintendo look for the cab. This cab will only possess Atari-SNES games. I will surely get custom made for an already made board on my next build. Side art coming up today.

ARtwork on one side complete but I did mess it up because my 7 year old couldnt handle the pressure

My fault for barking out orders. I will have to add a piece of some sort down the bottom left side to hide it and do the same for the other side. Overall Im satisfied

Once this is complete, I will add the buttons. I already cut my Lexar piece to match to gie me that art protector.

Note: Jigsaw will cut the Lexar..skill saw will not unless you want shrapnel everywhere.

A tablesaw will produce perfect edges for lexan if you run it through nice and slow, run a strip of painters tape down the area to cut first. Must use a GOOD quality and sharp blade (Diablo blades work great). Even with a rigid guide a jig saw will make crooked and uneven edges from the blade flexing.

Edit - cab is looking great!

Control panel semi complete with the Lexan. Makes it shiny. Buttons are LED and I will have to replace the joystick top with black (it came with red).

Whatever that half circle moon is above the left joystick isnt there in real life. Maybe it was the angle I took the pic at or the reflection of something because it is shiny.

I have 2 black joystick balls you can have if you want. I'll just drop them in the mail to you unless you've already ordered some. They came with my final fight cab and replaced them with blue and red

Annnnnnnd right on que, after putting everything together, I install the video to hdmi and now I cant get anything up on the screen. Only thing that comes up is no signal and then goes blank. What have i missed? Its grounded and everything exactly as is.

Apparently bad hdmi. It works on everything in the house but the PI so I went swapping and found one. We got power!

i've decided i'm going with at least 4 cabinets. i feel like that's a nice number for a mini-arcade.

also i'm planning to upgrade all screens to 20" i think.

currently i have
- asteroids
- final fight (its a mess right now; i've been testing various arcade rom images on it and haven't decided what to do with it..may swap vinyl wrap)

want
- star wars (no brainer on this one; may leave it alone)
- galaga (or other vertical cab)
- possibly space invaders
- that light-up marquee pacman machine w/ riser at costco looks sweet

just read 1up is releasing 3 or 4 new cabs at CES in a couiple weeks...*sigh* might have to get burger time or see what else they have up their sleeve.

they are listening to their fans and upgrading the monitors, controls and adding feature like lit-marquees & stuff so it will be interesting to see what shows up.

(ok maybe 5..or 6..or 7)

damn, wife is going to murder me.

ETA this one right here tho

I haven't read the whole thread, but has anyone talking about building a cab from scratch like this?

I think I'm gonna do that.

you still gotta make it light up from the back. the particle board marquees they ship with aren't transparent so what are you doing for that?

i have fallen out of love with full size multicades.

1. with the smaller cabs you can recreate the 80s arcade experience without taking up tons of room plus you can literally pick the 1ups up and walk upstairs with them.

2. tons of $100 and $74 cabs around; just keep an eye on the arcade1up sub and jump on it when walmart drops the price.

3. depending on whether you're going with raspberry pi or PC the work is almost already all done for you and $100 worth of crap from amazon will get you a fully working multicade.

4. as a corollary to #3, many sites have popped up offering full vinyl kits for the cabs (including risers) so you can recreate that dream machine you always loved growing up (for me its Defender) almost 100%.

5. huge community of people are jumping in now since the price of entry is nothing so all these companies are popping up to offer virtually any customizations you can dream of.

the 6 button configuration on that link you sent is standard fare on these 1up units with little to no drilling.

the biggest downside is its not realistic to have more than 2 people playing on one of these units but with the larger screens i think they capture 95% of the spirit of the originals.

Oooooh, can you get rid of the particle board? It’s pretty cheap to buy the marquee already mounted to plexi in whatever size you want.

If you don't need 2 men and a dolly to move it around, it's not a real cab!

i'd love a link for that..sized for 1ups? i have a couple bookmarked sites that will give you the marquee + light for like $50 turn-key but being the cheapest bastard on the planet i would love to DIY if its cheaper.
