I hate that every roku remote has 4 buttons I never ever use. Netflix, Disney, Hulu and Vudu.

I understand they worked out a marketing deal here but at least add 2 more buttons you can map to your most used apps.

Pleeeeenty of room on the remote to add 2 more.

Anyone know if you can hack this to change what these buttons open?

I agree it's annoying, but I imagine that a lack of extra programmable buttons is part of the marketing pitch.

Anyway, just download the Roku app on your phone. Then you don't have to worry about the remote anymore.

frick that. The remote is simple and easy to use. Why complicate it by having to look at my phone in order to press the correct button?

Because I always have my phone, and when I need to type anything, I can do it faster on my phone than with the remote. I also have basically unlimited soft buttons for channels.

Roku Ultra remote has 2 programmable buttons. Not sure if it's compatible with other models.

So glad I never have to use a Roku anymore. My remote worked couple of times.

How do you change the volume on your TV with your phone?

One mulligan allowed anywhere on the course for every nine holes.
• Tee the ball up in the fairway if you are a new golfer.
• Pick up on all holes after you have made a “double par”; for example, an 8 on a par 4 hole.
• On the putting green, use continuous putting and no “remarking” the ball between putts.
• Concede all putts “inside the leather,” or length of the putter grip.
• Improve all “unfortunate” lies such as in a divot, in a bunker when in a footprint, or against a root or tree.
• All penalties should incur a 1 stroke penalty and the drop should be approximately where the ball was lost, out of bounds, or in the water.
• Limit all searches for lost ball to one minute instead of three minutes. Most people spend way too much time looking for lost balls.
• Use a “hand wedge” (throw the ball) after two unsuccessful attempts out of a bunker.
• Always play “ready golf” even if you are not farthest from the hole as long as you are in a safe position.
• Get excited when you have a good shot. Air high fives and fist pumps are allowed.

This is what my app looks like:

I can change volume, turn the TV on and off, etc.

The phone app can change the volume on a Roku TV or Streambar, but it can't do it on just any TV with a Roku stick or box attached. You need the physical remote with IR for that.

Ah, got ya. Didn't know that. Even if the stick is in an eARC port?

Well hell, now I don't know. I just know my roku app does not have the volume buttons, and my roku is in an ARC port.

There are inexpensive third party Roku remotes on Amazon with programmable buttons.

This is the main reason I use the phone remote on my Apple TVs. Also, any of us in the house can control it with our phones without having to look for the remote.

I use a 3rd party app, Rokie for ios. When I had an Android device I found the app for Roku sucked (I can't recall if it was the official app or third party). It often wouldn't connect to the TV. With the Rokie app I can control audio just fine on native Roku TVs. I also can easily swap between TVs with "just 1 remote".

No experience with that 3rd party app, so certainly not encouraging you to switch back, but I've had zero issues with the Roku app. Always connects, easily switches between tvs without a hitch. Basically just does what I ask it to do, when I ask it to do it.
