I still think adding an additional monthly bill (and I'm assuming being locked into a service until that phone is paid off) is a poor financial decision. But that's just me - I don't like having debt. Judging by the downvotes I got, it seems most on here rather have additional debt.

I just got the iPhone X through a Buy 1 get 1 free deal. I believe we only were able to get it by adding an additional line, which I had to do anyway for my son.
Maybe you could add a line and cancel another line afterward?
ETA: was through ATT

That's the catch of the BOGO. Wife and I have ATT but don't need to add another line. Anyway getting the deal without having to add an additional line?

Sam's Club is running a promotion on Aug. 4(in-store only) where you receive a $200 Sam's Club Gift card and waived activation fee with purchase and activation of 8,8+, & 10 on installments.

You may be able to add a line and then cancel another a couple months later. The only stipulation is that the line you activate stays active for the life of the payment plan.

can you explain this like i'm 5 yrs old.
Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure it's just a $25/line credit. On our plan we have 3 lines. before the ATT Next plans when we were buying subsidized phones for $200 we were paying $40/month per line "access fee". Now with ATT Next we are only paying $15/month per line for the access fee and the $35 or so a month for the phone. Now of course that is more than we were paying before $40/month vs $15 + $35/month, but I kept my phone for 2 years after it was paid off. So for those two years we weren't paying the $35/month for the phone.
Four years @ $40/month + $200 subsidized phone = $2,120 total
Two years @ $50/month + Two years at $15/month = $1,560 total.

If you don't have the money to just buy one outright, then you're really making an impulse buy and it's not a smart financial decision. If you don't have the cash on hand, simply save up the money first.
What? They're almost all interest free and it just rolls your phone payment into the service payment.
Two horribly bad takes about something as simple as buying an iphone in the first 10 posts, kind of amazing, really

I'm in the market for 2 X's and just spoke with ATT. The lady told me, you can cancel one line prior to the exchange and then "activate" a new number to get 1 phone free.

buying new phones is a bunch of absolute horse shite these days. that's all i got still. costing me what used to be maybe $400 for 2 new phones is now best case scenario $1700 off ebay for 2 new phones or 30 month financing $2300

So how does this work? You buy the phone and bring it to your provider to turn it on? Sorry I am new to this.
TIA
