Looking for a 65” TV before football season starts

I’m not looking to break the bank, but I also don’t want to cheap out.

I’d prefer NOT to get a smart TV. I’ll just use my existing Apple TV box, although I’m not against a smart TV. I’ve had issues in the past with them bogging down and generally a pain in the arse.

I don't know much about individual tv's, but I'd imagine it is going to be tough to find a nice one that isn't a smart tv. You can still use you Apple TV instead of the tv's interface anyways.

I have two 65" TCL 6 series Roku tvs, but these are smart tvs. I've not had any unusual problems with these sets.

My AV guys recommended me get some LG tvs in my new house. I bought the lower end 4k tv. I use a google chromecast for inputs and have a stereo system for sound, so the TV just needs a decent picture and that’s what I get. I haven’t had any issues with the 2 I bought, one 65” and one 75”.

I have been really happy with Hisense and TCL android and roku TV's. I use to be all in on Sony and they were and still are good TV's, it is just the Chinese brands have come a long way and make very good TV's now. They still offer crap, so that $100 32" TV might still suck, but once you get into the 65" range they make decent boxes.

I have a 65 inch TCL Roku TV and I haven’t had any problems with it. i’ve been actually surprised with the picture quality and the price was reasonable too.

All I've had is Samsung so my brand loyalty may not help you much

I was a Samsung homer for decades until I bought a 75" for my media room. Bad things occurred with the picture.

All I buy now are TCL (generally the 4 series) TVs now, and I just hook up Roku devices to all the existing Samsungs until they die.

The best is probably the Sony A95K but it's $4k.

The A95K is using Samsung's new QD-OLED panel. If I were you, I'd check out the Samsung S95B that is using the same panel at half the price. The S95B scored higher than the LG C2 in every category on rtings.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/s95b-oled

I'm planning to buy a new 75" tv and I've been doing alot of reading and watching video reviews the past couple months and the S95B would be my choice. The problem is they only offer it in 55 and 65". So I'm going to wait till next year's lineup which should have larger models.

Fwiw, I have a gaming monitor with a QD-OLED panel and it's amazing.

Go to rtings.com and figure out what suits your needs best. It's the goat website for TV reviews and research.

The new model year oleds were recently released, find a deal on prior model year oled; either Sony a80j or lg c1.

It’s pretty tough to find a dumb tv these days. I tried last time because I wanted to just use my Apple TV. Ended up getting a Samsung Q60B and loved the smart platform so much I don’t use the Apple TV anymore.

Hey VT, I wanted a Sony 65" OLED. I set up every sale alarm I could on the Internet. It took me two months, but I caught it on sale, reduced from $2.6k down to $1.3k.

I also wanted a 65" LG OLED. Same, and by waiting and setting up online bots to look for deals, I was able to get one for under $1.1k while everyone else was paying $2.4k. That also took a couple months of patience.

I know it's hard to be patient when you've reach the start of football season, but you can save bucks AND get an extremely premium quality set if you take your time, know which model you want and are prepared to pounce as soon as the opportunity to get a smashingly good deal materializes.

Get something with Dolby Vision (not samsung) to pair well with your apple TV.

Go to rtings.com and see what they rank based on your usage.
