Shield tv pro is the best device.

Apple TV 4k is a good device if you're used to the Apple TV. The new remote is better than the old generation remote (though still not great.) The picture quality is good for non-4k content too.
If I had to be completely honest though, it's expensive for what it is. I got it as a gift. If I was buying a new box, I'd just get a Roku Ultra for half the cost.

I've never had a reason to use anything other than chromecast, but have heard shield is where it's at.

Are you having trouble viewing games using your current setup?

If you want 4k hdr with YTTV, not apple.

Apple 4K TV supports Dolby Vision, if your TV accepts it, and that is a nice perk. Really good. No hassles.
Watch for sales, sometimes as low as $125. Worth it.

Roku. That's the wife friendly experience. The others probably work, but you want WFE more than anything else you do in your life. I have no exp with AppleTV, but plenty of experience with Windows Media Center, etc., just put the buttons on the remote and move on with your married life. Roku for life.

it is a nice device but HDR does not work with live TV services like YoutubeTV, Fubo, Fox Sports app, etc. That is a deal breaker for many folks.

The first version of Apple TV 4k only supported 4k @ 30 FPS. The subsequent generations do support it (HDR.)

yes, 2nd and 3rd gens do HDR just fine. They just dont do it on live TV services. It wont change from SDR to match HDR on those services. It is a known issue and well documented.
HDR on non-live TV services like Netflix, Hulu original, HBO Max, Disney+ etc. work fine.

I'd recommend one of the Chromecast (with Google TV) devices - either the 1080p or 4k model.
Google has them on sale for $20 and $40 respectively.

I want to believe that Google will make sure you can experience YTTV on one of their devices.

I don't get it. Broadcast TV doesn't broadcast in HDR so that does not work with any device. Nothing to do with Apple TV

I'm strictly Amazon Firestick 4k or a TV with Amazon built in.

Fox has 4k hdr games. ESPN has 4k hdr streams.
There are even more when you get into soccer.
It has everything to do with apple tv. I own the device. It is my favorite but it isn't for everyone. It has issues like they all do.
You should get educated on the subject and checkout a fox 4k college football game. It looks great even though it is only upscaled 1080p. ESPN is true 4k.

Roku has the best user interface, imo.
