Looking specifically for a non-Mac laptop and I was hoping to get some input on what brands I should look into and which I should avoid.

check dell outlets. I got my wife an xps13 for almost 40% off and she's been extremely happy with it.

Top Rated Amazon Laptop - $349

I got this one to go back to law school, works great for standard business tasks and netflix/internet functions. I have no idea why someone would pay $2K+ for a Mac when I could literally by 6-7 of these computers for the same price.

Try to edit a 4K video on that laptop and your question is %50 answered.

I get that, but the question was best bang for buck laptop...if you are editing 4K on the reg then I don't think you would be looking for a budget laptop. For day to day tasks that 75% of users have a $2000 MacBook is not necessary.

You could find a used or refurbished Macbook Pro for a lot cheaper than 2K. And in 5 years the Mac will still outrun and outlast just about any PC on the market. I've never understood why people will spend 800 on a laptop every 3-4 years when they could've bought a quality product that will save them money and time in the long run.
