ATT ran fiber to my house

i cant bitch too much b/c i'm on a private drive and they promised free installation but the guy ended up having to call in 2 bucket trucks and they had to run the fiber to 4 poles to get it to my house.
the question i have, is the line is a small black line about the size of a spaghetti strand strung about 75 feet from the nearest pole directly to the side of my house.
it looks like i could cut it in 2 with 1st grader safety scissors.
is this normal? i had underground utilities at my last house so I never saw an exposed cable but i always thought this was protected by that big orange water-hose sized cable.
i'm not complaining because it works and i didn't have to pay for installation but damn it looks fragile.
oh, and the installer also left behind a massive spool of the stuff behind a tree on my property. must be 300 feet of line at least. is fiber so inexpensive now they can just afford to leave spools behind at install sites?
eta pic. its the bottom line

It's very thin but pretty tough. Pretty sure it could hold 500 lbs or something.

Yea that is the fiber line. Strung across street for me to the side of the house. Oh well. The orange tube is mostly for underground conduit. Overhead, they just let it fly in the breeze.

At my place I have the same cable buried underground. Runs from the box in the neighbor's yard, and they buried it across my front yard, directional bored under my driveway then turned and went to the house.

Cad, yep that’s the same they ran to my house in NOLA. Everyone there’s a strong storm or high winds I assume I’m gonna lose internet.
Only time it went down was during Ida and that’s because so many trees fell on it.
I sure wish they’d do more underground work, especially in NOLA

Just had it run to my house this week too. They would have buried it but too many trees from the pole to the house so up in the air it goes. It's thinner than my cable wire that runs the same way but I think it'll be fine if the squirrels leave it alone.

I think it's sheathed in kevlar. At least what they buried in my yard was.

Didn't stop the crews building the house next door from cutting my fiber 4 or 5 times

Looks like you get to perform some experiments to see what can cut fiber lines

Had it here in KC. Not sure where you are but looks like you may have same issue I had. The box on the ole the wire runs to would freeze up and we would lose internet. Google fiber just recently became available where I am. I switched to it. Cheaper and they bury the line so no issues.

yeah it kinda sucks but better than only having xfinity as an option!
the house we just moved out of had att fiber and the electric company just tore our yard up burying MORE fiber so they can also offer it.
makes no sense to me why they couldn't use the existing fiber infrastructure but i guess there's business reasons they have to run their own pipe.

I have ATT fiber from a pole to the house and Hurricane Ida did not take it out.

A truck hit mine. It stopped working. Att tech said it has a kink in it at the pole. He just bent it back and it has been working fine.

Christopher Moltisanti and Patsy Parisi about came to blows over a boosted spool of that stuff.

Im jealous as hell. I live out in the boonies and ATT only offers 25Mbps.

Does TMobile cell service work well out there? If so, investigate tmobile home internet 5G.

CAD703x i miss your stories with your Xfinity account and their data limits. Ah the good ole days.

Pretty sure I paid more in data use overages than I did in blockbuster late fees.
Man that data cap and upload bandwidth cap pissed me off something awful.

It's fiber, very small bit very protected if you don't hit it with a shovel.
