My MacBook air is 6 years old now. Still runs like it's brand new.
spilled coffee on keyboard couple of time and no issues.
Apple computers are outstanding machines.
That's all.

Both, but would primarily run Ubuntu or similar mass-following Linux distro if my current job didn't require windows.

I have a top of the line windows surface laptop 2 with every upgrade you could get for work.
I am underwhelmed. I still have issues that require me to hold down the power key for 15 seconds to reboot and lots of issues related to connecting the usb-c to the docking station.
Then there's my daughter's Chromebook I paid $99 for 5 years ago that still lasts 10 hours on a battery charge and boots up in milliseconds and can do about 80% of what I use my laptop for on a daily basis.
Microsoft can do better.

I have a MBP that I dual boot Windows 10 & Mac El Capitan.
I prefer the Win10 environment by far, plus the GPU in MBPs are extremely underwhelming.

I am in my 40s and grew up on Win machines. DOS, Win 3.1, 95 to Win Vista. Made the switch to a Mac in the early 2000s and although it was a challenge at first, I found ways to do pretty much everything I was doing on a Win machine.
About 3 years ago I switched back to a Windows computer.
I actually didn't dislike Windows 10, but the code it is built on is long in the tooth. The machine was fast, but I always had little things go wrong - all software related. Blue screens, driver issues, corrupted files, etc.
Finally had enough and got a near top of the line MacBook Air. Yes, it has some hardware limitations but boy it is so nice being back on a Mac. I use parallels to access a few important apps, and having iMessage built in makes it extremely convenient. I wish they had touchscreen macs, but that's a small sacrifice to be back with a Mac. And yes, they seem to last a lot longer.

Windows. I'm lost on a Mac. I don't have problems with my XPS13.

May I know brand and model? I’m interested in getting one of these

I've always been a Windows person, but I've had a company-issued Mac as well a Windows machine for the last few years and right now MacOS>>>>>Win10. My Mac is about 4 years old and smokes my 2yo Windows machine.

I think Windows 10 is the best OS Microsoft has put out in a long time. MacOS is still much better though.
I know the techy crowd hates the prices they charge for hardware and hearing non-tech people say "it just works", but it's the damn truth. I have used MacBook's and iMac's professionally and personally for years and the updates, software, and UI are all nearly perfect.
I recommend Macs to everyone who asks.

Which one was better? Windows 7 is the only one in the same league from what I’ve seen.

From a business perspective, Windows 10 can be bloated, messy and terribly inconsistent. I could write an essay on this, but won't.
As for mac or windows, I prefer more control and I work in IT/OT and 90% is Windows. Even though any Windows can be terrible, the Apple/Steve Jobs fable of Think Different is false and misleading. There's probably 10 documentaries on how shitty Jobs was in general. Philanthropy, helping the world, all the narrative he drove to get the fanboys. All bullshite.
But he was an absolute visionary.
At least Gates has given billions of his fortune to charity.
To answer your question now:
It takes 5 years after release to get a stable Windows OS. And usually skip a generation.

Mac all the way for home use and for audio/video production as well as for coding. I like windows 10 at work for the users.

Windows. No need to pay 3k for a Mac that I can build for 1k. You're just paying for the name. Sure, the quality is good, most of the time. I know what's in mine all the time and I didn't break the bank to get it.

The only reason to have a windows computer is to game.
Otherwise, the operating system is terrible.
OS X for everything else.

Mac
I was a Windows user for years. Bought a Mac and I never looked back. Extremely happy with my Apple computer. Mac user since early 2000’s.

I only run Linux (xubuntu) on my home computers/laptops.

Windows - all my Window's machines have descended (except for my Windows 7 work laptop) into software reboot hell until the blue screen of death eventually assumes the throne again.
Mac - The Mac is ok but it's major drawback is that MS Office just isn't the same on a Apple product
Chromebook - . My HP Chromebook just works all the time but not having Office is again the only drawback.
Ubuntu - I put (had too to make them run again) Unbutu/Linux on all the old Windows laptops and they work very well as an old standby web surfing machine, in the shop etc..
*Note - I must use Office for work.
