Apple Watch 3 or 4 for the wife (you can stop laughing now)

She has a 1(?) i think now but she's a swimmer and wants something waterproof. her birthday is dec 7 and i wanted to get her something now with plenty of time for it to get here.
2 questions:
1. is the new ECG worth the extra $100 or so? anything else about the 4 making it worth the extra $?
2. any deals on the 4 possible? i assume being apple they won't cut price for at least 6 months. (costco has $40 off the v3 making it $229 so thats pretty attractive to me at the moment)
she uses the the hell out of her v1 watch now..i'm pretty impressed with how much she likes it given how much she hates technology. she mainly uses it for hands-free calling and the fitness apps.
thoughts?

Basically you're getting a slightly bigger display and the heart functions, so is that worth it to her?
I'd generally shy away from buying year old tech from Apple, especially on something like the watch which is probably a little less "settled" than the iphone (and could get more quickly left behind depending on what future models look like/feature). But I have the 3 and like it, so if she's not concerned with that and doesn't care about the new features, I'd take the better deal.

If money isn't an issue just go with the newest one.
If you'd rather not, then just get the 3. I got one over the summer and it's been fantastic.

My wife has only tried on the 3, but she went in thinking she wanted the small one and immediately thought if she got one it'd have to be the big one because of the screen. Pretty much every female in health care I've ever run into has one and I believe most if not all are the larger size. Size matters, get the 4 with the bigger screen.

I should also mention I'm moving her from a 6+ to an X so she'll probably be so excited about the phone the watch being a 3 won't matter.
Is the ECG thing legit? That is the only thing about the 4 that I'm really interested in.
ETA cad bitches about $1k phones..a week later drops $1k into Apple's ecosystem.

Everyday moving forward you will have to stare at an apple product on your wife's wrist.

Does she have heart problems or just being proactive? If she has heart problems it’s worth the money and more.
My mom got one and has heart issues, she can send her info to her heart doc easily and he can get alerted if she has issues.

she had a minor stroke when she was in her teens and occasionally has a racing heart in the middle of the night. she's 34.
if this is potentially useful and i didnt go for the '4' to save $100 i'll never forgive myself if something happens so i think i just answered my own question.
i see where you can set this up with your doctor to send this 'rudimentary ecg' to them immediately after generating it.

1) No one knows yet because to my knowledge the ECG/EKG feature isn't activated yet.
2) I don't think there are any deals but MAYBE as Thanksgiving/early Christmas rolls around. Even then, I'd imagine those deals would be on the Series 3.
Cad,
I have a series 3 and wear it 95% of every day only taking it off to charge some. I workout literally everyday with gym equipment, running a few miles a day and swimming probably 3x a week. I looked at getting the Series 4 and would if I didn't have kids and a wife that chew up all my $$$.
Here are the BIGGEST benefits I see in the Series 4 over the 3:
1) It's bigger and even brighter. You may not think this matters however, run for 3 miles and start getting tired and look at your watch at night. The extra display and brighter screen make a big arse difference. Don't downplay this point.
2) If you get the Nike+ Watch Series 4, some come with a reflective band. This may matter if your wife runs or walks at night or early in the morning. Also, safety. I wouldn't downplay this point either IF she does nighttime or early AM stuff.
3) The HR sensor is new. I've been told that it picks up the HR from the wrist faster and more accurately. To me, this is the BIGGEST reason I would upgrade.
I thought I had heart issues but instead just always have a really low HR. I became OCD about tracking my HR and needed to know this info FAST and FREQUENTLY. The Series 3 is good but the Series 4 is damn near as good as wearing a HR chest strap.
But those are all subjective based upon the things that I would use it for. I didn't mention the fall detection or the EKG stuff because you already know about that. IF your wife has a medical condition where she may fall or any heart issues... it's WELL worth the extra 100$, in my book.

ok, sold. $100 is a riduluosly small amount to quibble over and the improved health features..why wouldn't i want her to have those?
eta just found this article:

I think the phone calling on the 4 ( which I use very little) is clearer and better. So you may want to check into that if she uses it a lot.

Please get the series 4 both for the fall detection and the ECG feature then. This is a no brainer now that I know this assuming that the extra 100$ or so won't break the bank.
They have a high and low HR feature notification, which is amazing and super accurate. I was getting my resting HR down to 37 in the middle of the night and it scared me enough to go get a real EKG from the Dr. So in essence, it's a tool but it could POTENTIALLY be a life saving tool.

are you pretty active? it was a badge of honor back when i was training pretty seriously to get my resting HR below 40. it used to scare my wife how long my HR would go at night but i think that's a good thing right? a low HR is a generally a sign of fitness.

Yea very active but getting in the mid 30s and low 30s scares me. I was diagnosed with Bradycardia or something. The cardiologist looked at my EKG then looked at me, checked my pulse and my lungs and told me to get outta there cause I was just in good shape.
Subtle brag but the moral of the story is my Apple Watch has motivated me to workout a lot and also got me to truly check out my heart. If I had a series 4 and the ECG stuff was active, I'd use it.
Hell, I might be talking myself into buying one for Xmas, to be honest!

i'm giving apple their due here. my androidwear is a fricking notification silencer at this point and little more.
i want to brag about it..i want it to be a good watch..but the fact of the matter is apple destroyed android with their watches. android wear is on life support and if google doesn't throw some serious money at it, its going the way of the doo doo bird.
