They just overhauled wearos and Qualcomm finally introduced a new chip.
So some steps have been taken.
Also a lot of the new Android watches coming out finally aren't ugly and bulky as sin.
With all that said there is no doubt that the Apple watch is king.

Has it been pointed out that the ECG is not a passive monitoring like heart rate? It requires the user to touch the non watch hand to the crown to complete the circuit to measure one lead across the heart.

correct. you have to manually initiate the ECG sensor but its nice that's available to you as needed.
