what are you doing instead or are you just taking it up the arse and handing your medical and health data over to the company with the WORST record of securing your privacy on the planet?
i've downloaded all my data to put into a personal dashboard to date but have to decide what i want to do in the next couple of months..quit tracking my health or move to another brand.

I already have Fitbit, Google fit, our eufy scale, and it then past run keeper all synced up. I don't really care if Google knows my steps per day or how much I sleep at night

Just sell yours while it’s still worth something and buy something else. Google will probably just turn it off soon anyway.

I switched from a Charge 5 a few years ago to a Garmin smartwatch. I used the Instinct Solar 2 and now the Fenix 7. They're way more expensive than the fitness trackers but something like the Vivoactive 6 isn't too bad at around $300.

One of the kids has one, forgot which. I hate having to deal with this kind of crap because I have to do all of it for 6 of us.

Wouldn't this data be protected by HIPPA?

its HIPAA but given that google and meta willingly hand over private user emails including government officials they don't like i am pretty sure they would have zero problem also handing this over.
look at the fiasco w/ 23andme and them basically handing all the DNA results over to the FBI to use in tracking criminals.

Sounds like an invitation to a class action lawsuit...

pretty sure that's what all the former trump admins are trying to do since google gleeefully handed the biden autopen all their private emails.
we'll see how far that gets.

HIPPA is my number one bit of quality control when I'm looking at shitty job postings. As CAD pointed out, it's HIPAA.
HIPAA doesn't protect shite, especially when you agree to share "anonymized" data that can only be tracked back to you in 400 different ways. Eventually your historical sleep data will be priced into your car insurance.
I dumped Fitbit when the Google acquisition was announced. Google can get bent. Their business model is slicing and dicing "anonymized" data to sell your profile to advertisers. At least Apple is pretty transparent in their desire to get people making $40k a year want to buy new phones every year.

i work in online healthcare training and i've looked at more hipaa-related courseware in the last 20 years than anyone should ever have to endure.

Since they're on the way out, the Venu 3 models are mid-$400s. I am looking at the Venu 4, presently.
I'm just wondering how comfortable it will be to sleep.

In my opinion, Google screwed this up. They should have left Fitbit alone
They would have been better partnering with Garmin, that would have been a killer combo

It took me two or three days to get used to it. Moving from a much smaller fitness tracker was weird though. I only take my watch off when I shower, so that helped me as well. Since it's on all day I don't really notice it at night.

I could be wrong but I believe HIPPA laws only apply to medical professionals.

It’s not fricking HIPPA. It’s HIPAA.
