I'm trying to determine if I can or should switch to "DirecTV Now" versus my old school, stupid, pedestrian, satellite dish version of DirecTV.

Basically, is there any way for me to confirm that my TV will be capable of interacting with this service?

I have a 65" KS8000 series Samsung Smart TV.

Additionally, my television came with a "smart remote", so I'm also wondering if that remote would be how we'd interact with DirecTV Now...?

I've contacted DirecTV Customer Support, and while in the past, they've been extremely helpful; not even close to understanding WTF they're talking about with this burgeoning service offering.

I'll hang up and listen. TIA.

nb4 Movie & TV board... GFY

Just do youtube tv. I have same TV and that is what I use.

You can use the built in app and it has a free month preview.

Oh, and tech board

Can your tv download the directv now app? Then yes.

If not you need fire tv/fire stick/roku/any other streaming device.

Think of the service like Netflix/Hulu. You need the app in order to use it.

Similar setup. I have YouTube TV + Chromecasts and Apple TV. I have Samsung smart TVs but Chromecast and Apple TV are much easier to work with.

Also, I found something else out that made the choice moot.

If you have AT&T U-Verse (internet service) and are currently bundled with traditional DTV, you're paying ~$30 for the ISP... if you switch off of the dish/box/etc. you lose the bundle and will have to pay full price for the internet service; which is ~$60...

Yeah, no thanks.

Get a streamer, the apps suck on the TV’;s and don’t get updated as often.

Currently the ks8000 does not have the ability to use the DirecTV Now app. Last week an email was sent out stating 2017 & 2018 Samsung smart TVs now have the capability to use the app. The ks8000 is a 2016 model so it was not included in that update. I have the 55" model and checked anyway but the app is not available.

I had the same issue with my Samsung Smart Tv. I bought a fire stick which solved the issue. Downloaded the DirectTV Now app. Works well so far. 2 days now. Want to use it for the next 30 days to test it out and make decision on whether to go back to the dish.
