Anyone else re-evaluating using Lenovo at their business?

So, I've been a fan of Lenovo laptops in business settings. It's anecdotal but I've had much better luck with them vs Dell and think the build quality is good.

However, Lenovo is a Chinese owned company which means they are required by law to comply with Chinese authorities. Simply being made in China isn't enough to have me concerned, but companies and manufacturing processes that are owned and controlled by Chinese companies give me pause for concern.

People have already wised up and started to avoid cameras made by Hikvision and Dahua (which are usually repackaged as other brands.)

Is it (past) time to start avoiding Lenovo, too?

I'm going to use my x1 carbon til it dies, and I'll probably get another one

I love my thinkpad, so here’s how I’m going to rationalize it: It was created by IBM and is therefore American.

Dang I was hoping this would be a thread bashing the quality because I actually have had poor experiences with the 3 Lenovo’s I’ve used through work. I’d rank it below dell but above hp. Would not buy.

Feel like that’s an unpopular opinion, so maybe I’ve just had bad luck

They were previously approved for Air Force purchases, but now they’re being prohibited even through approved purchasing channels

I wish we were using Lenovo. Our HP laptops are crap.

I really do try my best to avoid Chinese made tech, but like a poster above said, my X1 Carbon is f'ing phenomenal. Lenovo is just a reliable brand and it's hard to argue against it.

I have taken apart and repaired countless laptops, my ratings:

1. Dell. Good components, reliable, good tech support
2. Lenovo. Fit and finish is good, tech support spotty, some models have heat issues.
3. Asus. Good systems, but not meant to be maintained, lots of plastic clips that usually break if it needs more than one repair

4. The rest. HP's are garbage, if there is a shortcut, they take it. It's why they tend to be significantly cheaper. Toshiba's used to be good. Acer, dunno much.

I don't know. It seems like hiring a CPA that's been convicted of felony embezzlement. He might be good at his job, but I'd be crazy to trust him explicitly. Which is kinda what you're doing with China tech since you don't know what back doors are built in.

In the last year I've bought some tech from Chinese companies:

o TCL Roku TV - good

o Mi Box S media streamer - good

o Wintel Pro mini PC - not good, I finally gave up and replaced Windows 10 with Lubuntu Linux and use it as my Pi-hole server.

We evaluated HP, Dell, and Lenovo. Left HP and went to Lenovo and we aren’t looking back.

We have also started utilizing AMD because intel can’t seem to get their fabrication processes down and are constantly having supply chain issues.

My manager ditched our MacBook Pros for Lenovo’s. Not a fan of the laptop but Windows 10 is a nice OS.

Its not a quality issue. If you have intellectual property on a Lenovo, good chance the Chinese now have it.

Same here. The Ryzen 5 and 7 laptops have been money. I have been getting everybody T495 and T495s lately. Best $1000 laptops you can get, imo.

My newest servers all have Rome chips in them.

What is the T495S? I've been mixing the T495 in for some users. We mainly buy the X1 carbons for laptop users. I like the Tiny's for desktops.

The “s” at the end denotes that it is a slimmer version. Execs get the x1 carbon.

It’s gotten impossible to put anything past the CCP at this point. If they’re willing to round up a million minorities and harvest their organs then they are willing to put the screws to Lenovo.

I guess the question now is what laptops will replace the T49x series?
