Android battery drain question

My current phone, Moto Z Play, has been the best I've ever had for battery life. That was until recently. Looking at the drain since last charge shows in order,
Google Play services
Screen
Phone Idle
Android OS
After that, I see apps I actually use daily, except Hangouts is there, and I never use that.
Any idea what problem(s) I am having?

turn off google play
dim your screen
make sure nothing is updating automatically
set email to poll every 30 minutes and not push

When this happens to my phone I just do a factory reset and it completely resolves the issue.
Any other answer is just guessing because there could be 1,000 different things that could be hanging up and causing battery drain

This as well as deleting Facebook and FB Messenger apps from my phone made the world of difference.

BTW, deleting those cashes seems to have helped the home Wifi problem.

you need to refresh your phone from time to time to fix the goblins, no shortcut gonna help you out for long.

It's not so bad. All you lose is text message history. And it makes your phone damn near factory new outside of the battery deterioration and any screen nicks.

I may end up having no choice.

I've read push is better than intervals.

Which app is everyone using for email? I can't find anywhere on the Gmail app to change push frequency

I've been using Bluemail. Very customizable. Lets you add multiple accounts across different providers. It was the only one that would let me have a gmail (personal acct) + an exchange acct (work) side by side. Tons of settings and options

I bet your WiFi problem goes away permanently.

I started turning off WiFi outside my house until I know i will use it.
That and turning off the location settings has helped my G5 a bunch.

So I just did a reset on my pixel 2 at the advice of CAD. I had been experiencing some reduced battery life, nothing terrible, but I figured a good reset would help.
I discovered a couple things, first, Android messages did automatically backup my SMS history, I didn't need any third party apps. Android/Google really has this backup thing down. You reset the phone and it gets everything restored to exactly how it looked before the restore.
Second, I use total wireless which is a Verizon mvno. On the pixel 2, the apn settings can not be edited with any Verizon mvno's sim cards, and there is apparently a big issue with pixel 2 owners not having data or mms connection. The work around I did on initial setup was to insert my old ATT sim, edit the apn settings, swap cards, then save. It's not a huge hassle, just an added step I had to do when I restored the phone.

Make sure all your photos are backed up in Google photos, and make sure your phone is set to backup to your Google account.
I think that's it
